^ Does the north stand only date back to 1972? I find that incredible... I remember going there in the mid/late 90s before and after the Alouettes moved back in and it was absolutely dilapidated, there's no way it could have been only around 25 years old back then.

EDIT: Oh wait, you must mean the north stand of Ivor Wynne dating back to 1972... that makes more sense.

That's right -- sorry, I confused the two a bit by adding a last minute reference to Molson likely having upgrade issues in common with IWS (probably more significant ones too, given its age)

Only 80 million for McMahon updates. Not sure how much you can do with that but no one was really expecting much. At least the concourse area looks better!

Lots of fireworks in that render to distract evreyone from the fact McMahon will still be the same largely with only an $80 million renovation done to it. Lipstick in a pig. You will need at least $120 million at least to truly transform that structure into something modern.

IMO, a big mistake. Throw that 80 million into the fieldhouse (as in the CalgaryNext concept) and get a decent new downsized facility to move forward in.

$80 million to renovate McMahon could work. Ottawa's stadium renovation a few years back cost the City $130 million, but that involved demolishing the south side stands completely and re-building while renovating the north side stands. That $130 figure might also have included the cost of the Civic Centre renovations (the arena and north side stands of the stadium are one structure).

Somewhat related, I found a 2015 Calgary Herald article on the cost of Canada's publicly owned stadiums and arenas.

Development application has bee submitted to the City of Ottawa, but has not been made public yet as negotiations between the NCC and RVL continue. The NCC has a public board meeting coming up this month (next week?) and we should find out more.

The Mayor mentioned LeBreton Flats in an interview recently when speaking of possible challenges this new term of council, and he offered a rough timeline;

Quote:
Watson expects council to be extremely busy and focused on the transformational projects coming up: the new library, new Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital and, of course, LeBreton Flats. He says the firm that’s going to design the new library will be selected in two or three months and public consultations will then follow. On LeBreton, Watson says RendezVous LeBreton met the August deadline set by the city for all site-plan applications to be submitted. City staff are now reviewing the planning documents, which will be submitted for public review, then to the National Capital Commission in April or May for action. The NCC apparently has to submit a report to cabinet by June. “We will know in six months whether this is a go or not,” Watson says.

Looks like McMahon will still have the bench seating. Pass.

Saskatoon has started planning on it's next arena. City of Saskatoon through consultation recently have determined need for a new downtown arena, possibly in conjunction with a new convention centre/auditorium and a new library.
Renovating the 30 year old, 15,000 seat SaskTel Centre would cost ~100 million & ~18.5 million for renovating the 50 year old, 2,000 seat TCUPlace Auditorium including it's convention centre space.

Sasktel Centre with no changes has about 8 more years left in it before new arena desired. The main tenants, Rush lacrosse & Blades hockey along with other events & concerts.
TCUPlace Auditorium will continue hosting events as usual, like ballet like Moscow Ballet's Swan Lake later this month, music concerts like Post Modern Jukebox beginning of next year, Touring Broadway shows like Kinky Boots in March, Saskatoon Symphony Concerts throughout the season etc...https://tcuplace.com/

Plans for new arena and convention centre/auditorium could cost about $330-$375 million.
Some downtown Saskatoon future arena sites have already been determined...

Wow! The inspiration for the Corel Centre?

I know it's a long shot, a ridiculously long shot, but I could see, one day, Saskatoon with an NHL team to balance Regina's CFL team.

Saskatoon will never get an NHL team. Canadian markets are tapped out, and aside from Quebec legacy reasons only the Greater GTA is large enough to support a team. You have places such as Austin, Kansas City, Cleveland and Cincinnati that are double + the size with no teams. Also, I don't think North American sports leagues grow beyond 32-36 team.

Interesting Spauto is considering spending $50 million to renovate stade saputo in the future. If that is the case I wonder if the Alouettes should consider moving there if they can accommodate a CFL field like BMO, as Molson stadium has almost no ability to generate ancillary revenue streams with its tight footprint boxed in by McGill buildings and so few corporate suits.
