The reason for NFL is because our state has the biggest power player in the league in Dallas. He won't let another team take away from his fanbase in Texas. He has a stranglehold here.

NBA...California has 4 teams. Maaaaaybe Texas could also have 4, but I just don't see it. Taking Austin away from San Antonio, marketwise (TV), just wouldn't make sense to the owners.

MLB makes some sense. NHL does too, but Houston is a bigger market without a team.

NHL would be great for Austin. I miss the days when Austin had the Ice Bats.

Houston doesn't even have an AHL team (basically a AAA minor league team affiliated with a NHL team).

I think Hockey would do well!

They used to have the Aeros. But, I don't know what happened to them.

Tge next major league pro team in Austin will be a MLB, NHL or NBA team.

Yes! I had a good friend who was one of their Zamboni drivers. Snook into the old Bat Cave to watch games from directly behind the goal.

You should check out the Texas Stars up in Cedar Park. It's a much higher quality version of hockey (AHL), in a much nicer arena than the Ice Bats in the Expo Center.

Just wanted to repost this. There are major league markets half Austin's size, in markets with much less disposable income. The only reason Austin currently only has MLS is because we've only just recently gotten big enough. The greater Austin area has pretty much doubled in size since 2000. More pro teams are coming. It's not if, but when.

Of course some of these are part of larger CSAs, and/or have larger tv markets.

One (Green Bay) is also certainly an outlier.

However, I think it is beyond ridiculous to ever say Austin is not large enough to have a team from any of the major leagues at this point, as all of them have teams in smaller markets.

Austin is twice the size of New Orleans or Buffalo for instance, and has a million more people than Oklahoma City.

1. Sacramento - NBA
2. Pittsburgh - NFL, MLB, NHL
3. Las Vegas - NFL, NHL
4. Cincinnati - NFL, MLB, MLS
5. Kansas City - NFL, MLB, MLS
6. Columbus - NHL, MLS
7. Indianapolis - NFL, NBA
8. Cleveland - NFL, NBA, MLB
9. Nashville - NFL, NHL, MLS
10. San Jose - NHL, MLS
11. Jacksonville - NFL
12. Milwaukee - NBA, MLB
13. Raleigh - NHL
14. Oklahoma City - NBA
15. Memphis - NBA
16. Salt Lake City - NBA, MLS
17. New Orleans - NFL, NBA
18. Buffalo - NFL
19. Green Bay - NFL

How about build a world class horse racing track and race with a massive purse to match the Kentucky Derby.

Very true. Also, come late springtime, it's pretty freaking hot around here, this year notwithstanding.

I'll check it out sometime. As a Golden Knights fan, I would one-day love to see professional hockey here in Austin.

I can’t tell how many here are Aggies or Longhorns, but my degrees are from UT here in Austin, in case it wasn’t obvious which side I’m on

I’m in a house divided. Wife is a dreaded Fighten Farmer, while my horns are always up! Hook ‘em!

Wouldn’t have it any other way, and would be happy to send my kids to College Station. I think I’m gunna be sick now. 🥴

Sooo happy the UT vs TAMU game is coming back soon.

I grew up a UT fan with every intention of going there - got accepted but ended up going elsewhere due to better scholarships.
