Access to earlier listings or paper archives might be helpful. For some reasons I recall reading another name may have graced that location but I can't presently verify.

Googies presentation seemed to be well thought out. Pippy's seems to have been a mishmash of competing signage.

Well, just south of Young's Market on Union Ave. is the old Charleston Hotel & Apts.

The 1932 date for the Young's Market picture is confirmed by another picture in the same set. This view of the Boos Bros. Cafeteria at 530 South Hill comes complete with Olympic flags.

533 South Grand Avenue places it next door to the Mayflower Hotel. So I thought it might appear in some vintage shots of the hotel.

Nope, no Hotel Key West. (this is 1943 so it's a bit late for the Hotel Key West)

The Hotel Key West was also close to the State Normal School, so I searched those photos as well.
I finally found it in the lower right corner of a 1913 panoramic photo taken from the Normal School.

Near the center is the Hotel Key West. There's no signage on the front, but the 1909 CD confirms the name.

Hmmm.... the shape and size of the Moderne-ish building to the left of the Mayflower in 1943 shot made me wonder if the old Key West hadn't been remodeled. Then I found this article--not that it's definitive.

This is a 1961 photo of the Hangover Restaurant on Vine Street, probably at Selma Ave.
I noticed the photo because of the Seaboard Loans sign which is visible on the outdoor
scenic backdrop of the hotel room when I Love Lucy travelled to Hollywood.

The Cord was a sales failure when new, but is now considered an all-time classic. Maybe the backside wasn't so pretty, but it sported a very unique front.

There was at least one other Cord in Los Angeles. This 1937 photo is from the corner of Highland and Sunset, and shows Curries Ice Cream, which was at 6775 Sunset Blvd. (according to the info linked with the photo.) Notice that the "hidden" headlights are exposed on this car. The lights were raised and lowered by a crank in the interior.
