The victim of our last homicide was a wanted drug "queen-pin" from the states. She was shot in her car in a quiet street in Lachine.

I saw it on the news this morning. Terrible. Ayreonaut suggested the murderer was probably on something.

Terrible news to wake up to, especially as a U of C alum. Bermuda Shorts Day is supposed to be a day of celebration.... not this.

A CBC reporter in Calgary tweeted that they have confirmed the suspect is a police officer's son.

Calgary just had our largest multiple murder (mass murder?) in the city's history last night. Five university students dead, all in their late teens - early twenties. It happened at a house party celebrating the end of the school year. How completely terrible

Yes, it's been uncharacteristically violent in Ottawa-Gatineau lately.

No murders in Québec City in 2014, so far

Update from Québec City (including Lévis) - 0 for 2014 as of May 1, 2014.

Of course, February saw a quadruple murder-suicide in two towns south and south-west of Québec City.
2 in Saint-Isidore (about 50K due south of Québec City)
2 in Sainte-Croix (about 65K south west of Québec City)

(The report of a possible murder-suicide in Lévis on Jan. 5, 2014 was declared a double suicide by the SQ - a 67- and 68-year-old couple with health problems).

This means that Québec City's last murder was on July 15, 2013. Closing in on a year.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary shared this on Facebook. Nice to see we're so low, given the general impression here that crime is getting worse. Surprised to see the Maritime cities ranked so highly.

I made a mistake in my last post - Québec City is now at 2 murders - one in February when a felon with a record longer than Yonge Street was killed and one on May 2 (about 2 or 3 Km from my home).

Neighbours in an apartment block - a 37-year-old woman killed a man in his 60s on Friday afternoon.

Also, SignalHillHiker's chart seems to exclude the entire province of Québec.

One in Spruce Grove yesterday/today. I went to elementary school with her; she was my first crush (I think) and first Facebook friend. It's shocking when you know/knew the person.

Number 9 I believe in Winnipeg over the weekend. The police suspect there may be an impending drug turf war escalating so this could be a bad year for the Peg........on the other hand, providing no innocent bystanders get hurt we could get rid of some low-life dirt bags.

Yeah, it mentions in the fine print that Quebec was excluded because the police often don't record the type of weapon present at the crime scene.

I believe that in many cases in Quebec, a stale baguette is used as the weapon.
