Ahh this is across the street from that Framework development. I visit that Dirty Coast whenever I'm in town. Happy that something nice and sizable will be there.

Unfortunately, I don't think the demolition at 1335 Magazine St. is indicative of re-development. The request for demolition stated: "Demolition of a Non-Contributing commercial building to grade without a redevelopment plan."

I don't have any inside information but that seems pretty clear to me.

FWIW, this was a general "Demolition" permit, as opposed to the "City IDC Demolition" permits which I believe are the ones due to code enforcement/blight. I can't imagine the owners are tearing it down just because without any hope for future development.

Ace Hotel

A friend of mine that works at the Ace said it's going away along with the De La Luz/Bar Marilou etc. Apparently the guy that owns the buildings has wanted them out and a Hyatt brand is going to take over. I sure hope they have something "hip" and they keep the vibe there. I don't have many other details or no 100% it's factual. But would be a disappointing loss.

NOLA.com had an article about it. Apparently ACE has been pulling out of most of its locations since the pandemic. https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...c294d576c.html

it says "Over the past two years, Ace Hotel locations in Chicago, Pittsburgh, London and Los Angeles have closed".

Ace seemed pretty successful so not sure that ownership would want them out per se but may just be an Ace corporate thing. One thing about hotels tho is that they can seem to be doing great without turning much of a profit. some managers will spend tons of money to provide great service and experience but then the property ends up breaking even or barely turning a profit. so its also possible your friend is right and maybe ownership was fed up with not making any money on a hotel that had good occupancy at good rates.

I been living in Austin for two years now and it’s crazy just to see how much it’s grown man.

Even though the residents are mad lol , but man it’s awesome.

I wish New Orleans had the same type of growth , but I guess it’s not a demand for all that.

Plus Austin is considered one of the new tech capitals.

The casino looks great - I guess the last thing they’ll do is repaint the roof if they haven’t already done so. Have they started work on Spanish Plaza or is that still in development ?

they have not touched the roof yet, they need to fix leaks but unsure if they will or not. when masquerade was open, you could see water stains on the big tower over the bar, a friend of mine said his friend was installing insulation recently and said the roof was leaking all over the 2nd floor

with masq gone, im sure state police are happy, their office was directly under the bar and the bar would leak right in their office

as for spanish plaze, its been probably 6 months or more since I went over there. I havent noticed anything around the area but couldnt say if anything is being done, at the time the fountain was drained, thats about it
