Good for you. Glad they took care of you.

My guess is soft opening in late Jan, official opening by Valentines Day.

Thanks, wasn't the original opening date scheduled for May 2017? If so a Valentines opening would mean a delay of 9 months!

Remember the Van Zandt? Opening was about a year after their original quotes.

I remember that as well, lesson learned by Fairmont to not use that contractor again, I'm sure they have lost a bunch of money as a result.

Signage at the top is up. It's huge.

Also, I saw the lights at the top finally lit up at multiple colors tonight. It eventually switched to all blue, but for an hour or two it was a rainbow effect. Looked really great.

I noticed the signage today too coming from the South. I didn't notice any on the North facing side. This place is going to be nice once they figure out how/when to open for business.

Drove by the building yesterday up close since I was downtown, and the quality of the building looks really good up close, I think that it turned out better than I was expecting.

Unfortunately I have yet to see the rainbow lights.

I guess they were just testing the sign because I didn't see it lit lastnight.

Well from where I live, my bedroom has a window facing the fairmont, so I see it every night. That night a couple days ago was the only time I've ever seen it lit up with multiple colors at once. Hopefully we see it more often when it opens, because it looked very cool.

Sounds like a flood event happened in the building today that will delay the opening well into next year. Between the porte-cochere collapse and now this, they can't seem to catch a break.

Wow! Am I correct in assuming they are in a legal dispute with the contractor? Something is wrong with the building if they are dealing with all these problems. Do you know the specifics? How bad was it and where did it occur?

The general contractor is Hunt Construction Group Inc.

The subcontractor in question, sued by Hunt Inc. earlier this year, is Cobb Mechanical Contractors Inc. (The suit also names Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. as a defendant.)

The project's developer is Manchester Financial Group.

From an Austin-American Statesman write up at the time, by Gary Dinges, on March 9th:

Quote:
The general contractor building what will soon be Austin’s largest hotel has filed a lawsuit seeking at least $27 million in damages against a subcontractor that allegedly caused the project to fall behind schedule.
Another article of interest (replete with snarky comments), from Don Bauder of the San Diego Reader on March 17, 2017. (Manchester Financial is based in San Diego.)

Why the new moniker, freerover?

I only overheard this being talked about, so not too sure, but it sounded pretty bad. From what I heard, the water came from someplace high-up in the building and cascaded downward throughout the building. Hopefully we'll hear more about this sometime soon.

Years ago I worked on a hospital that had a fire sprinkler fail. It flooded 2 floors fairly badly, but it wasn't a highrise either. That may be what happened since there is so much water pressure in the sprinkler pipes and it takes a while to turn off.

Their online registration system is accepting reservations beginning the week of SXSW. The rate for SXSW is around $1,000 per night.
