I strongly suspect that there are waterwalls on either side of the Madison Ave entrance that cascade down into pools.

Is the cocoon going to cover the exterior beams or just the whole perimeter? The picture got me confusing.

I always wonder whether pedestrians who walk past this know or care about what is currently rising.

Most of them? Probably not. But you could say that about most things.

They do. Not everone of course, because there is always so much construction in the city. But people take note, whether because of the unusual form, block-long construction, maybe former workers, I’m not sure. It could also be from surprise at the old building being gone (a lot of people didn’t get around during the pandemic). But people take note. I’m sure most of them don’t have any idea of what it’s supposed to look like. That’s where a site rendering is supposed to come into play.

Yeah, even though we don’t have an official rendering for this building. But at least we got a glimpse of what it may look like thanks to the plans.

Is the building on 8th or 9th floor? If it’s on 9th, I cannot wait to see the first setback!

I’ve been out of town, and haven’t been able to check in on it. But the first setback should be level 17. Level 11 should be mechanical.

Title update to 60 floors? It's a little better than 58 for a supertall at least...

1,389' is even with Trump Tower Chicago's spire now. The tower still has 60 floors though, the article was probably just referring to occupied height.

Here's the cutaway showing 60 w / mechanical. Title change?

Thosr upper mechanical floors are really just levels, not solid floors that cut all the way across. You can see that on the model also.

It's beginning to stand out! Can't wait to see this structure finished.

Lots of great skyscrapers, but New York needs a building that's a different color than beige, black or blue. Red, green, purple... bring 'em on!

(Thanks for the pics.)

New York needs to stay and look like “New York”. That’s why people love it, it’s not like everywhere else. That being said, this tower will “probably” have a more standout appearance. If only there was something that could show you what a potential new skyscraper would look like.

This is sort of an odd statement to make in regards to this tower. It is fundamentally altering the skyline. New York no longer looks like it used to and it won't look like it does now for much longer. That is the essence of the city.

Not odd at all if you read the comment. He wants a more multi-colored skyline. As far as “fundamentally” altering the skyline, again, I think not. New York has plenty of supertall skyscrapers. Brooklyn Tower would be the example you are looking for.
