I'm surprised the LD and UR are not covered up on the signs.....as they will not be opening for 4ish and 12ish months respectively

Everyone from the 1633 Ontario building side had their washer and dryer installed? I was told that they would be delivered by 8th or 9th but nothing happened... : (

I really like V6A with the exception of the balconies on the penthouse level, they seem tacked on and really take away from the rest of the building.

Luckily for OV that the rest of SEFC is coming along nicely, a little slower then expected but it's coming and it's quality product. Should help the area reach critical mass a lot sooner then if it were solely depending on just the OV.

I don't like that V6A tries to pretend to be several smaller buildings by having that taller beige section in the middle. It looks especially retarded considering that the penthouse runs straight along the top of all 3 volumes. Red brick also doesn't belong in Vancouver.

I've heard on many threads people complaining that the city uses too many boring light colours and there's not enough colour (e.g., complaints about the sea green glass, the beige buildings, the grey concrete). And now somebody builds something with some impact - a dash of red brick - and you're complaining?!

I think it's a much-needed dash of individuality so why knock it.

^ agreed, i like the red - contrast from the blue and green is much needed. As long as it's not faux heritage, I'm fine with it.

Protesters occupy Olympic Athlete's Village condo; affordable housing the issue

VANCOUVER - About half a dozen protesters are now executing a sit-in at a condo unit in the former Olympic Athlete's Village to protest cuts to the number of affordable housing units available.

"There was supposed to be two-thirds affordable housing at the Athlete's Village -- that was approved by city council in the plan -- and now they've broken that to 10 per cent," said organizer Tristan Markle of the 1,100- to 1,200-unit development. "That's 674 broken promise units, we call them."

Protesters posed as homebuyers before sitting in one of the units, Markle said. They plan to sit there for 11 hours and 12 minutes total, representing "one minute for every affordable unit the city has redesignated as unaffordable at Millenium Water."

Within the demonstration's first half-hour, police tore down a banner that read "False Promisies on False Creek," Markle said.

"False Promises on False Creek" actually sounds pretty clever for once, lol. And it's technically not untrue, if one ignores common sense and the fact that 1100 units are being constructed all over the city at the moment. But no, it just isn't the same! We want waterfront accomodation!!

You call fo rless color and you're asking for purple bricks?

I think that building blends in perfectly, the red bricks look good and don't stand out like a sore thumb. I wish we'd have more buildings like that, I think their industrial/warehouse look would suit False Creek.

That shade of red looks really fake for one thing, and is like a charicature of the old-school boston/east coast theme. Purple is probably misleading, I meant sth like this:

Casa condo in Toronto. I wish Patina had this kind of brick along the side that faced the church, instead of all that shit spandrel. I'll also take the kind of red brick that's on the building to the right.

If we look at Chinatown with its red colour scheme the building does blend in generally well in that sense. Also the picture may be giving a poor representation of the colour due to the angle portrayed.

I just moved in yesterday to my unit at 1633 Ontario and still no laundry. Has anyone heard when they're supposed to be installed?

Also, I have no shower curtain rod. This is kinda essential...

Re: Laundry... go hound them.

As for your shower curtain rod. Never provided. Go to Home Depot on Cambie and grab a $12 tension sprung rod to solve your problems.
