It will take some time, from what I've read there are a lot of investment suites. Tenants will need to be found.

Despite following this thread for some time now it is still unclear to me what has been the publicly given reason for the months-long delay in people moving into this building? Can someone please summarize that to me in plain English.

It's not my favorite building in the city, but it has some nice angles, especially when given some wide-angle love. Best part of this building is that it feels really tall from street and has that true skyscraper feeling that only few towers (Shangri-La, Scotiabank Tower, The Melville, 1408 Strathmore Mews) in Downtown have.

I actually like this angle. The building feels very tall when approaching it from north.

My least favorite angle of The Georgia.

The most common and also best view of this building. It really fills its corner of the square.

Great photos, Klazu.

Yes this is a great concept to think about. You get a feeling when you look up at a skyscraper from below. That's something amazing.

Funny how your least-favorite view is my favorite. It's the only one where the tapered prow/corner looks doesn't look like it's glued onto a box.

I think they've changed the lighting on the crown - it's far brighter now (only seen it in blue though) - but it was clearly visible from Cambie & 12th last night.

Looking at it every evening, I haven't really noticed any huge difference. It's still a very poor and dissapointing lighting feature.

I concur that it is brighter than before. It has been that way for at least a month or two now.

The lighting feature was considerably brighter last night from my perspective in Olympic Village...first night that it has stood out.

So I wasn't dreaming. I could see it lit up pre-dawn this morning from near Cambie and Broadway.

So much for the giant raindrop feature that was originally promised.

I saw the lighting on the peaks slowly change from red to blue. Looked good.

Seeing photos of "that" would be great.

Hasn't that been the case all the time since they turned it on? I fail to see anything having changed.

Saw that from the office this AM. Didn't realize it transitions colours.

Wasn't there also supposed to be some sort of light feature on the sides of the tower?

English duo take on Hotel Georgia lighting
John Mackie, Vancouver Sun
Published: Friday, May 16, 2008

[...]

But it's the lighting on the adjoining 48-storey tower that will probably have tongues wagging. It promises to be the most interesting architectural lighting since the BC Hydro building went up at Burrard and Nelson in 1957. (Unfortunately, the BC Hydro building's wall of beautiful blue and green lights is rarely illuminated anymore.)

The top of the Hotel Georgia tower will be lit "like a beacon," and there will be 20-to-30 storey "raindrops" cascading down its sides.

"There's extra interest if you have motion in lighting," says Lewis.

"If it's just static, people get used to it -- they look at it once and don't necessarily look at it again. But if it's moving [and] it's doing something different, it catches the eye every time."

"It's almost like running water," injects Storey.

"It will be like a long drop and then will fade out," says Lewis.

"And then the next one will come down and fade off."

Thanks to the miracle of modern technology, they can apparently pull this off without disturbing the inhabitants of the condo tower. If work proceeds as planned, the building, and lighting, should be ready by late 2009.

PS - the Electra / Hydro light strip is usually on these days and I think they reallocated the colours into groupings of 2 rather than just alternating. It must have been refurbished.

When the lighting started, it just looked like 2 floodlights aimed at the panels. Now it looks like the entire panel is evenly lit and the light is brighter.

WRT the colours - you're right - there have always been 2 colours, I've just never seen them change
Any idea what the interval is for the change? It seems to be a long period.
