I agree. People like me who drives to the airport everyday I see first hand just how bad the airport needs a light rail. 8 years is way too long.

Yeah, I wish it was more like two years. But at least its not some murky, off- in-the-distance date like 2025 or something. They do have a lot on their plates with other lines, and there is also the big airport re-do coming up now that Delta is back on sounder footing. I know on the news they mentioned the fact of how it was going to be necessary to coordinate this particular TRAX project with the airport master plan.

I'm still shocked that the airport line hasn't been built yet. They've been talking about it since 1999! That line would get a lot of use that could transfer to the rest of the system...

Yeah. Build it already.

LDS Business college

I was curious if anyone knew what was happening with the old LDS business college on south temple? I have noticed that the for sell sign has been removed.

Here's an article in city weekly that states that our stuggling downtown is a product of land owners refusing to develop their land because they are holding on for when they can get more money. Seems to me like there is definitely some truth to it.

Here's a few photos that I took today while I was downtown. They are only with my camera phone and I was in a hurry.

Marmalade Update

Metro

Gateway

Broadway Park Lofts - Not much going on. No activity at site when I went by.

That's awsome that Marmalade is finally rolling. It's really going to be a classy project. Broadway Park Lofts has looked exactly like that for months now. I wonder what the holdup is. And that Gateway building is looking just as pathetic as I thought it would. I don't understand why they didn't at least build what the rendering showed.

I don't understand as well. But I guess it's better then nothing. But still a big
disappointment.

Is that the hideous suburban-looking building near the Gateway we were all complaining about a month or two ago? Because, I must say it doesn't look half bad now.

Thanks. It's the Apple IPhone. A great toy to play with. I love the thing. It was well worth the money.

Parking spots.

But I did notice a little retail building to be built just east of the V Gateway Tower. That I like cus maybe it will help hide the parking lot from 200 south.

What ifs....

What ifs.........

I got bored so I photoshop a new skyline of downtown Salt Lake City with some of the highrises that are planned to be built in other suburban cities such as Murray, P.G. and Lehi.
Here is a pic of the Skyline of Salt Lake to "WHAT IF" these buildings would be build in downtown salt lake city.

Can you find them all?

This is what the Salt Lake City skyline COULD look like if buildings like the...

1. 14-story Embassy Hotel in Pleasant Grove
or
2. 45-story Gehry's 5-star Hotel Tower in Lehi
or
3. 10-story University Tower
or
4. 9-story Pavilion Medical Office Building in Murray
or
5. 15 story IHC Medical tower in Murray

were ALL build in downtown Salt Lake City.

I think both the Gehry hotel and the Embassy hotel would make the most impact to the city's skyline.

Maybe add the proposed City Creek Center buildings and get rid of Key Bank.
