It will become dingy and dirty very fast, this will show much more on beige than it would on brick or cement.

^Got ya. I thought you meant that they had installed some material where they weren't supposed to or something like that. And yes, it will get dirty quickly, but it will probably improve the look for me .

One from today

Its going so sloooowwww

My guess based on looking at the way they are doing this is that they have to rig some special scaffolding on which will be mounted the hoist that pulls up the sections of glass from the lower floor.

This is one of those things where you can do the 1st 57 floors the easy way, but because you're elevating the last pieces way above the roofline, the hoist that they were using on the lower floors won't work.

Looks like they have set up the scaffold to hoist the glass on the northwest corner and have extended the scaffold to finish off the north side (northeast).

Maybe we'll see some progress. Sure would like to see that top lit up? Any ideas when that will be (Big D??)

Hey guys, I am certainly no construction expert so I have a question. Why is it that these buildings seem to race to the top, adding floors at a rapid pace, but then seem to slow to a crawl when finishing the roof or the last of the cladding? OMP cladding, 300 n. lasalle rooftop, etc. I understand the situation with the spire on Trump however.

^ The slow parts you mention are either logisitcally much more difficult or simply are non-standard parts of the building. The geometry gets more complex, the spaces often get more tight, the construction method itself can change etc. Also there are lots of things going on at the end of a project that you usually don't see.

^^ Very true. There's a mad frenzy to enclose the occupiable spaces of the building so that interior work (plumbing, electrical, drywall, HVAC, telecom, etc) can proceed without fear of weather.

Once you get to the purely decorative things, like OMP's rear cladding or 300 N LaSalle's crown, the builders can afford to take their time and do the work little-by-little whenever there is manpower to spare.

Is that wolf point there under the sun-times building?
