Nice video!

I love the Yonge/Bay/York Street off-ramp from the Gardiner! I love how close the buildings are. It's like the flying cars in the Jetsons! Once One York, Ten York and the RBC building are done it will be even cooler!

Says the section 37 funds from 10 York and the Harbour Residences. The ramp will be replaced with one that terminates at Simcoe, and merges in with the Lake shore. The area the York loop is currently will become a park which is funded by the RBC building. No word on when this will start, probably in a year or two.

Or bring back VIA Rail to Sherbrooke and reduce our reliance on highways. It would be a much smarter use of resources. If a divided highway (let alone six lanes) can be justified then so can passenger rail. Corridors served by six lane highways and no passenger rail are extremely rare.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't this be the first true ring road in Canada? (Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway is not fully grade-separated, Hamilton's comprises of 4 separate highways.)

Calgary is getting close to 70% done theirs, but Edmonton's is planned to finish first. Saskatoon and Regina have ring road segments too.

I remember London was also pondering a ring road decades ago, but plans were ultimately shelved. K/W originally envisioned one too.

What Ontario highway is that?

Thing I really miss about Ontario was all the rural roads and tons of pretty little towns and brick houses. The countryside in Ontario is so neat and clean and BC most of the homes and small rural areas are quite dumpy. Very haphazard and half the small rural homes are mobiles.

BC has some wonderfully beautiful roads but the problem is that there are very few. The roads with few exceptions follow thin valleys. In Southern Ontario you could drive forever in a small area and not travel on the same road twice but due to BC topography you usually have no choice but to take one road or two so there are very few "off the beaten track" roadways.

This is why, despite BC's relatively small population with most of it concentrated in Greater Vancouver, many of the road/highways are surprisingly busy because there are no alternative routes.

This could be any number of roads, but as I look at it I think Wellington Road 124 northeast of Guelph.

Am I close?

Tokyo looks like such a cool city. Those are exactly the kinds of freeways I love. Elevated high up and winding among tall skyscrapers. That's my kind of city. It's too bad that kind of thing would never fly here in Canada.

Now with the condo boom, the Gardiner is beginning to offer a glimpse of that kind of experience which is why I'm so bummed about them tearing down the York/Bay/Yonge Street ramp. I don't see a Simcoe st. ramp being anywhere near as cool.

Well no , just because a road isn't completely grade-separated doesn't make it any less of a ring. Winnipeg did it first but Edmonton's will be the first fully free-flow ring. Also , in a way , Saskatoon would probably be Canada's second ring road although it's not fully free-flow. Saskatoon just beat Edmonton.

Went for a few drives along these highways when I was in Tokyo back in 2010. Indeed, an extremely awesome (peerless) big city experience. The expressways snake above, through and below the urban fabric, but are rarely more than 4 lanes wide, so as to not wall-off city sections from each other like the Gardiner/401. Of course, the public transit is extremely efficient, albeit extraordinarily crowded.

Shinjuku station at 830am. Standing outside Shibuya station front at 6pm. Experiences of a lifetime....especially if you like Japanese women.

It is actually Northumberland County Road 9 a little bit north of Cobourg. There are sections of Wellington Road 124 that do look like this though.

Yes, this! Something I enjoy doing from time to time is just randomly drive back roads and seeing where I end up. The possibilities are endless and it's virtually impossible to unknowingly take the same route twice.

This is the kind of road I'm talking about. They're limitless.

After doing such a drive I like to check Google Maps and see if I can figure out the what the hell route I took.

A little old, but a cool design plan for a interchange replacement in Ingersoll. Will involve a pair or roundabouts http://www.ingersoll.ca/Portals/Ingersol...2012/Agendas/04_10_2012/StantecPower.pdf

What's the point in having the entrance ramps to the highway connected to the roundabouts? As far as I can tell, they are entirely redundant.
