Too bad it doesn't look like there's a patio. The Village could use a good patio since Basils/Ward1 is closed, Jekyls is gone, etc. I think Za Pizza will have a small patio, but it's crazy that there are so few patios in such a restaurant-dense neighbourhood. I can think of Super Deluxe and Del Rio on River, and Buccacinos (closing) on Osborne. Is that it?

In the renderings there is patio space along Wardlaw.

Carlos & Murphys and Segovia also have patios. With any luck the Toad space will go to a restaurant or maybe be divided up among a few places when they move out, and the new tenants could put some patio tables out front. Would be a nice change from the noxious cloud of cigarette smoke that exists there now. Of course given the landlord I won't get my hopes up that anybody moves in anytime soon...

That courtyard used to be the patio for Basil's when it occupied the space that would eventually become Desart. I remember enjoying dinner on that patio because it felt so European. Then been so disappointed when Basil's closed at that location and hoping for another eating place to take it's place. Now it looks like I can go back there for a coffee!

I'm no scientist but it sounds to me like this entire building will be various shades of grey, with a huge portion of it being essentially tin siding, and balconies that take inspiration from our new devotion to unpainted steel poles everywhere. Not overly impressed by that.

The city needs to put some sort of rules around metal siding use, it's starting to happen a lot, and most of the time looks horrendous. Why are we building grain elevators in the city?

Looks like Buccacino's got painted black. I'm guessing this is the first step toward the Toad moving in. (There are for lease signs now up for the Toad/Cavern spot).

Can someone remind me why the Toad is moving? It such an institution in the village and the Buccacino's building is much smaller.

Landlord was going to increase their rent significantly, so they decided it made more sense to own. Also, Bucc's has a huge patio (as long as Happy Cooker decides to keep renting to them), which is something that has always sucked about the Toad.

The brother of the Toad’s owner bought the Buccacino building.

^Thanks for the answers guys. I'm curious to see if they maintain the same vibe and clientele. I rarely go to the current one anymore, usually when I do it's because we can't think of anything to do haha. But lots of good memories there when I was younger.

Hopefully the current Toad and Cavern spaces can wrangle in some sort of food and drink establishments. Retail stores are so boring. If it sits empty too long that's quite the hole in the centre of the village.

looks dull enough for crescentwood, though i'll bet money the neighbours will come out to vent apoplectically over the whole thing

Apparently there is a large fire in Osborne Village close to the Bridge. I haven't heard any more than that so I don't know what building.

I don't think any buildings are on fire. The word on Twitter is that it appears to be people in an encampment under the bridge burning junk, possibly tires?

Yep, it was a little tent city under the bridge. The fire was all out when I walked to work, but it still smelled like air was still a little acrid.

I heard it on the radio and figured it'd be under the bridge. Sure enough. Now who pays for the damage? Will have to go in and inspect girders, potentially repair damaged areas.

I emailed Sherri Rollins twice about this camp to tell her that her and the rest of council were making the wrong call in not clearing these camps out and that it was a safety concern. Low and behold, look what happens. My first thought when I saw the fire was "Good, now council will be forced to something about this and stop allowing these camps to setup there" but then I remembered that Rollins and her colleagues are completely useless.
