[QUOTE=NYguy;9191139]It's been in the construction forum for a while now. The building has been under construction a lot longer.
But it's moving along now, and I'm thinking it wasn't that long ago when we were at this stage with Vanderbilt. This construction will go by quickly. So enjoy it while it last!
In the Chicago forum, we consider this the Banana celebration stage.
I didn't realize- is it being built on a different lot?
No, it just has a large footprint.

And here's the other piece of info that explains it...
The base of the structure is what's taking shape now. It will be huge.

I must not have been paying attention, so I don't know exactly when this was moved to the U/C thread, but I KNOW y'all were GUNNIN to do it
Not really. This tower has been uner construction (by SSP standards) for well over a year, maybe even closer to two. But everything was below grade, where it wasn't visible. To me, it didn't make sense to move it until it was visible, particularly with the 700 ft demo project clearly visible. But now that steel is rising way above grade, it was obviously time to move it. It may have caught some by surprise, but it's been stated it was under construction.

a lot of this already looks pretty far along. they arent going to build past this half of the base until the demo is cleared away, are they? although it would be funny to see half a tower start to go up while the other half comes down.

For now, they can only build up to the 3rd level, they're still waiting on the city to sign off on the plaza design. They can't get the full construction permit until then. But they are supposed to get some floors rising on the Madison Avenue side by the end of summer.
The timing on this has probably changed. It could be sooner or later.
