Eviva

I am confused by the posts about the Eviva parcel being closed. Does that mean it's been sold off to someone else, or that the project is moving forward? The last post on the subject makes it sound like it is a dead project.

I wonder if the CDC will follow suit. That would be a big coup for Atlanta.

I am confused about this as well. I hope he was referring to the economic development bond issuance process with the Development Authority of Fulton County. As part of that process, title is transferred to the DAFC, who takes ownership of the property. They were approved for the bond by DAFC several months ago, so the timing would be right.

I wonder if Integral Group was just waiting on some clarity with respect to their Doraville Assembly project before finally committing to EVIVA? It seems they got a commitment this week from the Doraville Downtown Development Authority in that respect.

To be fair though, I don't recall what the other sides of the building look like and I'm sure the interior will be incredible.

There are more construction images of Yoo on the Park here...the "tiny square windows" aren't that tiny- they're about the same size as the sliding patio doors- it's just not floor to ceiling glass like we've been used to regarding the Skyhouse projects.

Ah, zooming in on those does show the square windows are much larger than I thought. Maybe I'll tour the development once that starts happening to get a better feel. It looks like awesome quality, I just think my preference for more sunlight let in via a larger ratio of windows as walls is shining through.

Can we not?

I think (maybe I shouldn't) that it actually fits the location and is popular. And there will be parrots too! They can build some big things in nearby blocks.

I'm of the same mind on this one. It's a great short-term development until the property values shoot through the roof.

Look at the renderings of the whole building and you can see how it will be situated with the tower at the back of the site on the Juniper Street side.
Oh okay...someone said something earlier about the building not covering the entire site and there may still be a parking lot on it. That's where I was coming from. I had always assumed it would cover the entire space up to the sidewalk like most every other Midtown building until I saw that. Anyway...

Kind of agree. That kind of is, or is becoming, the tourist trap of Atlanta. You expect to see generic/cheesy joints like this. Think Rainforest Cafe in downtown Chicago, or everything in Times Square.

...or Hard Rock Cafe, which is a few blocks away. It's not unprecedented.

It looks so stupid and out of place. The context is all wrong. This belongs in some second rate beach town in Florida or South Carolina.

Emory Annexation article on AtlantaLoop was updated with a response from Hizzoner Reed:

Quote:
“Mayor Reed welcomes all communities who choose annexation into the City of Atlanta,” the spokesperson said. “If successful, the annexation of this vital corridor would present the rare opportunity to bring a world-class teaching and research institution, strong neighborhoods, hundreds of thriving commercial and industrial businesses and the leading national public health institute of the United States into the city of Atlanta.”
Looks like CDC would be a part of this annexation. If successful they should build out Clifton Corridor, move the FDA office up there, and redevelop that prime property on Peachtree.

I agree with the ideas of building the Clifton corridor, moving the FDA, and redeveloping that parcel. Makes me wonder what other transit projects would be prioritized if we had two big ones in the east (BeltLine EST) and if we'd start seeing more permanent residents (condos and townhomes) along the corridors.

I'm not sure how it's related to the CDC but the FDA building is horribly out of place now. It's frustrating how diificult it seems to be to connect the isolated urban blocks on Peachtree and there doesn't appear to be a lot of opportunities to improve the situation anytime soon. I can't imagine what would motivate FDA to relocate.
