in the case of chicago, not really.
when someone shoots or stabs someone else and there's a corpse with the bullet holes or stab wounds to prove it, you don't need sherlock holmes to determine that a homicide has occurred.
the stats i post for chicago are all total homicides: one human taking the life of another. the numbers do not differentiate between intentional, unintentional, or self-defense.
i suppose its possible that a couple suicides might slip into those stats, but when you're dealing with a city with hundreds of homicides each year, those would amount to little more than a rounding error.
