Im going to some soccer and track events. Wanted to go to basketball but all canada games are sold out. For whatever its worth. The opening match and gold medal mens soccer games are sold out.

The argument was never about weather they would get a franchise or not it was about the sustainability and cooperate (casino's/entertainment sector) support that the community would supply. But you keep trying to be win debates by being the cockiest guy in the room.

Really sad and telling how society has changed when things like this of historical significance no longer have much... err significance, The Commonwealth Games, Pan Ams no longer have the profile they once did. In Canada, the Pan Ams always had a smaller profile than the CG but it was still much larger than today. Hell, even the Miss Canada Pageant was must see television along the lines of the Academy Awards. I'm surprised that the Academy Awards still do as well as they do.

Wasn't the goal of the organizers in the beginning to get the events to be Olympic or World Cup qualifiers for most of the sports. Must be like rustling cats.

What exactly did he say and where did you hear it. I'd like to track down the interview and hear it myself.

There's no need to try and deal or fund raise now. Get the concept and idea out there. Talking about some imaginary building isn't going to draw public support to the project, remember all the good will that came from the Regina concept drawing.

A lot of discussion over the years about whether Glen Abbey really and truly is up to PGA standards. There's little doubt that it's a fine course, though not in the same league as a Hamilton GCC or Royal Montreal. Perhaps it's unfair to compare the classics to a relatively young course like the Abbey.

On the topic of the Canadian Open, it's really disappointing that it hasn't been on the prairies since 1961 and the maritimes since 1939! At least the women's open gets moved around.

Its quite vague but maybe you can gleam something from it. Now the latest delay is apparently due to the NPD. Not sure how long he'll use that excuse for.

Man that Regina rendering was amazing wasn't it. Not even close to what they got but not like they're gonna suffer.

Thanks for the link. What you said about Regina was true. It got people passionate about the project which is what KK should be doing now even if the government is not on board. Sooner or later (and usually sooner) there will be a government that will back the project. Hell, wasn't it the NDP in Sask that approved the new Regina stadium?

Edit: I just gave the interview a listen, more flim flam yes, but he keeps hinting this will be really big and I tend to believe him. Said he briefed the government and says what he is asking for is minimal. I don't think he is blaming the NDP, just that it is a new government.

I'm going to listen to it again when I have more time as I think there are a few subtle hints in there. If we look at it like the Argos to BMO saga we can realize that it will likely happen, it's just going to take time. He says he really doesn't want to wreck the project because of one small thing going astray.

Logistically it makes sense to have it at the Abbey - at least semi-permanently.

Golf Canada lost their shirt up at Royal Montreal last year when the Open was there - and the members at Hamilton don't want it there again.

^ As amazing as that rendering and overall concept are, it is definitely for the better that Edmonton opted to build a separate stadium and arena. I just can't see something like that working out well... by comparison, Olympic Stadium's roof contraption was 1000x simpler and it still turned out to be a costly, malfunctioning bust. I could only imagine how Omniplex would have turned out, while acknowledging that it looks cool as all hell (and actually bears a certain resemblance to Commonwealth when you take the roof out of the picture).
