Tom Cruise, crazy or not, definitely relishes his role as a superstar and comes off as a man of the people.

Yeah, it's crazy how charismatic some of them are in person. It's like they have an aura lol

Others are dull as hell and really shouldn't be let outside without a marketing machine.

I was kind of touched by how genuine he seemed.

Normally I'm a bit of a hater when it comes to closeted movie stars, as much as I understand in part their reasoning.

No kiddin'.

For some reason, he reminded me of a televangelist meeting the audience in that video.

It looks like the seaplane terminal talk between seaplane operators and VHFC is still at a stalemate.
Just watched a news report on Global BC tv. No private seaplane operator is willing to use the new $22 million seaplane terminal being built at the Convention Centre. The private builder, VHFC, wants to charge a $12 landing fee for each passenger. The report also mentioned that the operators have applied to the Port of Vancouver to build a separate seaplane terminal at the east side of the Convention Centre. They said the facility can be built at half the cost.

Shouldn't this be a province or federal funded project given that it concerns airports and airspace? =O Or maybe they should just charge less but tie them in for longer. =S

Plenty of private airstrips and airports out there. As long as it meets national safety standards anyone can build an airport. Hell, a person could carve a 1500 by 100 foot strip out of the forest, make sure you have adequate aviation firefighting equipment nearby, get it assessed by the Transportation Safety Board, and you have yourself a registered airstrip.

Harbour Air, Whistler Air and six other float plane operators have formed a group called the Vancouver Commercial Seaplane Operators' Association (VCSOA). The VCSOA say an ideal location for a new float plane terminal would be next to Crab Park, and is seeking Port Metro Vancouver's approval.

Proposed float plan terminal:

Not sure how serious the proposal is. May be it is just a negotiation tactic?

That's what I'm thinking, as they already have a couple of $million worth of construction done. Their lease runs out on the current site this year I believe, so they have to move soon.
The site to the East of the Seabus is nice, but there is lots of Commercial traffic (container-ships) that take priority over everything.

PLus it would interfere with the Port's long term plans for the area east of Canada Place.

They can ask the Whitecaps how it's been dealing with the Port. I think that might dissuade them from proposing something that doesn't fit with the Port's plans.

I believe the original Whitecaps proposal as shown to the public conveniently "omitted" certain provisions, such as several market condo towers that the whole thing hinged on. Once that was made public, the Whitecaps withdrew their land swap proposal.
__________

Looks like they are ahead of schedule

Is it completely enclosed? if not, then that's a bad design flaw that they should rectify. Being rained on while going to and from your plane isn't a very good welcome or departure statement.

From the Sun:

Port Metro Vancouver says no to seaplane terminal east of Canada Place

By Rhiannon Coppin, Vancouver Sun January 17, 2011 6:42 PM

VANCOUVER - Port Metro Vancouver is not inclined to allow float planes to dock in the small harbour directly east of Canada Place, a spokesman said today.

"The Port has navigational safety concerns to the east of Canada Place," Duncan Wilson said over the phone.

"Those concerns are going to be very hard to alleviate."

...
Port Metro Vancouver has not seen a proposal yet, but has received a meeting request from the float plane operators, Wilson confirmed.

"Of course we're prepared to meet with them and listen," Wilson said.

"But we do have a strong preference for the location to the west of Canada Place."
That doesn't help VCSOA's bargaining position much...

The construction is behind schedule. It was supposed to open in Feb./March? but now the facility wouldn't open until May.

I believe there are 2 levels of check in/out, lounge and retail areas in the Convention Centre connecting to the bridge.

The top level is probably a lookout.

Even the bridge doesn's seem to be fully enclosed. Passengers still have to walk on the exposed floating walkway to access the floatplane.
