I expect we'll see more wood structures as builders become comfortable with it, and material prices come back to "normal." And I'm surprised that blended approach hasn't become more popular here either -- it seems to make a lot of sense, especially if it helps get past the height issue.

Is wood faster to erect? (mind the pun there lol). I'd think a builder could pre-assemble walls and simply bring them on site for quick installation.

Panelized wood structures are a thing. I saw a few of them when I worked in precast, where they were typically hollowcore floors on top of structural wood. I think that combo was attractive because precast by itself meets a 2hr fire rating for the floors. But man, those panels were pretty much solid wood lol. They did go up faster than traditional framing. We also did the same approach with panelized steel stud walls. Very similar approach to a total-precast structure, but lighter/cheaper.

Now I'm in steel, and we're also seeing a increase of wood in hybrid structures, though I haven't worked on any to have much insight.

Wood can be a lot faster. Ellis Don opened it's now quite successful (I've noticed they are constantly hiring) pre-fab plant in Stoney Creek that has been pumping out pre-fabbed wood construction modules for about 2 years now that are getting used to build things like supportive housing in Toronto.

5+1s have lead to a complete boom in apartment construction in the US as it's so cheap to build them. Basically every US city has them. When this project was first approved it immediately reminded me of them. I'm really surprised there hasn't been a push to bring them here as they are apparently quite efficient. I don't think our building code is really supportive of them which makes them impractical to build here.

They're using real brick for the cladding. Wish we got more builds in this city with the quality of CoreUrban.

Thank the lord - we still have a builder who builds with quality materials and doesn't cheap the hell out.

From the thread for the other CU developments around this one. Looks like this will have a red brick facade after all.

I believe they are using the same brick as the back, which is going up now and is quite a bit darker than that render.

Don't think i've seen this render on the forum before. It shows brick all along the west side of the building.

I kinda hope they are, it will make a nice contrast and make it not just be another clone of the olympia club in terms of colour and style

I love that glass.

Plus it makes the tall fugly on the corner less of an eye-catcher.

It's actually vastly improved from what it used to be. So awful the internet seems to be hiding images of it, I can find none after a cursory search.

It's better looking than Chateau Royale, in my opinion... they're still probably the two ugliest buildings downtown though. And of those, there are many!
