I hate most of the buildings that are going up, they're all short, fat and ugly. Very mediocre designs that almost all look alike with the cutout in the center. And none of the one's that are nice have had any progress like Astra, Central Station and the one that was supposed to go at Central and Adams years ago already.

I tend to agree with you. Phoenix deserves better and at least one building that meets/exceeds expectations or at least looks nicer than what was originally envisioned. When we look at what Cityscape could have been, the ugly Sheraton design, the crown that could have been on top of 44 W Monroe, Davis's Central Station design passed over (I preferred this one), the height we could have gotten at Block 23, Omega that could have been where Hyatt Place is (although short I like its design), the original Collier Center hotel design, the original Central Park East towers, among many others, it seems like we often get the short end of the stick. But at least we're eating up empty parcels.

Why would you expect generic apartments to be anything besides generic apartments?

These aren't high class residents, these aren't offices or high brand hotels.

They are market price apartment buildings

Precisely, we always get sold a bill of goods and end up getting second hand rejects.

Are you guys delusional? What about downtown makes you think that we would get anything but second hand rejects.

Yes its unfortunate the city grew up in the era of the car and the downtown was abandoned for 50 years and that neighboring areas like Tempe and Scottsdale still get the premier business development but that is the situation.

so sorry you arent going to get the flagship projects until Downtown is a flagship location.

Are you delusional? I didn't just make that chit up. Furthermore, I do not need someone to censor my opinion when it comes to quality of construction on this website. Everyone here has their opinions on that so I'm not sure why your getting bent out of shape about it now. Don't wrap me into your drama.

Nobody's crying here, but if it makes you feel better to hear yourself balk about anything that doesn't align with your opinions then suit yourself. I usually try to keep the peace on this website, but I swear some of you are just assholes to other people when there is a difference of opinion.

Its not really an opinion there is a reason we don't get exciting architecture downtown and why Scottsdale and Tempe get the types of development that would cause a demand for better architecture or new tallest buildings.

Im sorry you don't want to accept that reality.

I agree. I've let you guys blow off a little steam, but it's time to knock it off. It's getting out of hand and I'm squashing theses conversations on here and the Astra thread. The next insults slung will result in some time outs being given.

Nice in-fill project, but some horrible choices in materials and facade design. This is not going to age well.

I was hoping to love this project but it just looks strange. Maybe the second phase of this project will change my mind.

Phase II looks much better in my opinion and does not have the green accents that will look dated. Much more glazing facing Van Buren with a lot of ground floor retail should be nice too. I think the final story count is around 28 which is great. Clayco is going to build it, same contractor as Skye and Palm and anticipated groundbreaking in Q1/Q2 2022.

Downtown doesn't have the demand for tall office towers, it does have the demand for residential and hotel with plenty of dining and entertainment now. That is the reality.

What exactly will Phase 2 look like? I don't think I've ever seen it by itself.

it's all very soviet bloc style in massing ultimately but my take is - it adds density to skyline and at night you can't tell what it looks like anyway...just more massing of lights which is cool. all good ultimately. no skyline anywhere has nothing but great buildings/architecture. sometimes more is more...

I sincerely hope the poor saps that rent out an apt with a view to the north do 5 seconds of due diligence to know their awesome view of the midtown skyline and Squaw Peak and Camelback mountains will eventually be blocked by a new building. I guess it's rental and not a purchase scenario, but that would still suck.

And that doesn't even account for the construction noise outside your window for 12-24 months. I'm sure the management company will be completely straightforward with prospective tenants about these issues.
