The Zaza turned out so nice. It is really lovely walking down along the 4th street sidewalk by the building. Really begs for the Hobby building to be bulldozed and something to be built there for a nice strolling experience on that side of the street.

Aside from the obvious ability to work within space constrained spaces -- is a Luffing crane any different from a standard tower crane?

I can't answer definitively though I've always assumed that they pretty much do the same thing as the typical cranes.

What you already know, plus a luffing crane takes a bit longer to raise its payload due to it having have to maneuver more than a tower crane which merely needs to be over the payload and pull it straight up. But in tight spots, its a no brainer. Luffing wins.

Thanks Genral -- that's about what I thought.

There did appear to be some activity on site today (think they were taking laser measurements from across the street) - 11/19.

The site plan was approved and released. No final elevations yet. This could break ground before year end. Although it pretty much has already - just not officially.

They still need their construction permits. But that doesn't usually take too long after the site plan is approved.

They plan on starting soon. They filed for a right of way closure permit around the site beginning Monday 12/16.

They have their construction and right of way lane closure permits, and they filed for the finish out permits for all the floors. This should start any day if it hasn't already.

There was a little work occurring on the southeast corner of the lot yesterday afternoon as I passed by. Didn't see any heavy equipment on site yet though.

They are desperately waiting for the City to release the building permit. They want to start moving dirt ASAP.

This would explain the slight delay in the start. The right of way permit for lane closures during construction had the start date changed from 12/16 to 12/26.

Crew on site this morning.

One of them nearly hit me with their pickup as I was stepping onto the temporary sidewalk. So far I’m not impressed haha.

Finally some movement today.

Sorry for the humongous photo. I'm not sure how to make the image smaller on here.

Nice photo. It's not too big by me. This has to be the last groundbreaking of 2019 - unless something happens over at 721 Congress tomorrow.
