lol yep. And constantly claims we need more affordable 'equitable' housing, but then calls literal housing developers greedy, selfish and predatory.

Would be nice to stay on topic

This has been a great forum to learn about new building developments. I hope personal squabbles won't ruin that. Have a great rest of the summer and let's keep up the building development posts.

I sure hope 206 King st w starts soon and turns out ok. In the meantime maybe you guys can take your “efforts” to another thread. In my experience, nobody wins over hearts and minds by bitching and arguing online. Please?

I honestly believe this is how most new developments in our city at least downtown should look - heritage reflected in the first few floors - modern on top. You get the nice modern look from far away and close up on the ground it still feels like good ol traditional hamilton.

100% agree, this development is the one I'm most excited to see how it will turn out.

You're completely right @Chronamut, old school heritage ground floor up (till say 7-10 floor podiums max) and modern on top would really marry the city's past with a hopeful future.

Article in the Spec this morning. Expect the debris from the fire to be cleared by September, and construction of the new condo building to start in the fall. The developer has stated that the fire will have no impact on the construction, and that they still plan to repurpose those heritage elements.

That's some good news THM. Wish the ruble could be cleared before September but perhaps there's a reason for such a timeline. At least the fire has no impact and they will be reusing the heritage elements.

On a related note is the A&W now closed/being demolished because of the fire/pending sale of the lot next door (used for the arena/events downtown)? They've been closed the whole time, yet the lights and screens are on inside. Bizarre.

The A&W sustained pretty significant damage from the fire and it was not a planned closure as far as I know. I imagine they will re-open once insurance is coordinated and they can get their building repaired.

Apparently the delay is because they're waiting for the city to issue permits to remove the debris. Classic.

I noticed today that there is an excavator parked across the street. Hadn't noticed it before. Maybe we'll see the debris cleared this month.

Has it? Wonder who it belongs to. Definitely not part of the McMaster development.

TImeline stated at the end of the video. The debris will be cleared by the end of September, then construction on the condo starts in November. Condo will take two years to build, completion November 2024.

It’s been heavily featured in 41 Wilson’s marketing as well.
