Montreal '62. Place Ville-Marie, today 50 years old, was Canada's tallest building. The CIBC, on the right, was its close second.

I'm so glad St, John the Baptist in St John's survived. That place (like many other old churches) is a work of art. The ceiling in that place is jaw-dropping, judging by it's wikipedia picture.

Speaking of Jaw dropping, that pretty accurately describes my reaction on seeing Winnipeg's old and new city hall... ugh.

I love these old skyline shots from the 19th century. In many ways, skylines of spires look better than modern ones.

^Edmonton's finest building. It must have been very impressive for the local population when it was completed!

CP's Chateau champlain hotel under construction, with the now destroyed Hotel laurentien in the background. The Laurentien was one of the rare highrises to be built in Canada during the 1940's.

thanks for posting these.

considering what replaced it, l'hôtel laurentien is a huge loss. montreal could definitely use more streamline from that period.

also, amazing how clean the chateau champlain outside panels looked back then. i hear they went through an extensive renovation of the inside a while ago, but the exterior still looks pretty sad.
