Because the pit is long and shallow?

Funnily enough I thought the exact same thing when I saw this photo too!

I've also thought that FCP should have been taller. Is it possible to extend a preexisting skyscraper?

Yes it is - I believe there are plans of extending the towers at the Yonge-Eglinton centre

The Sutton Place Hotel renovation will also add some more floors. Off the top of my head I think it's something like another 5-8 floors on top of the existing structure.

I don't know if FCP has the internal support to add extra floors, and even if it does I doubt it will ever be increased now. I would speculate that if extra floors were going to be added it would have been done when the whole recladding was undertaken.

^You're probably right. I guess I just have the itch for a super tall in Canada.
...but would be pretty neat to see them increase the size of FCP, sigh.

First Canadian Place would only have to add one or two floors to become a "super-tall". The funny thing is, if that happened, most people who looked at the building wouldn't even notice a difference after it achieved said "super-tall" status.

Yes, it is so teasing how close FCP is to Supertall status. Perhaps we should buy a shed and stick it on top...

When FCP was built, it was the 5th tallest building in the world, so let's cut it some slack.

Sixth tallest, beaten only by Chrysler, John Hancock, Aon, Empire State and Sears towers, and FCP has a higher roof than Chrysler.

Menkes plans to clean up graffiti artwork of rebel London Artist "Banksy"

Quote:
Crews working with development company Menkes saved a stencil of a police officer, painted on a pillar at 90 Harbour St., as the building was being knocked down. The artwork, which depicts a police officer holding a balloon dog, is sitting in a crate in a warehouse awaiting its next life in Harbour Plaza, the new building being constructed on that site.
Harbour Plaza is the massive Southcore complex currently under-construction near the Toronto Waterfront.

Off topic, but Banksy is actually from Bristol.

You can just see the MLS south tower in Cal's picture above. They're not more than a few years old since completion and yet just think how much the view from inside has changed and will change in the next couple of years. By the time they're 5 years old they will have little of the views south and west that they had originally.

For me that's a welcome addition of density to this area. I love walking around it before and after a Jays' game.

Somebody needs to change the title of this thread. The condo towers have been approved but at a shorter height. They will be 62 (735ft) and 66 (765ft) floors in height. The office tower One York will be 535ft.
