Has anybody heard whether the developers decided to go with either the helipad or the spire (which would make this 700')?

Not sure, but I think they're doing the spire as that's what was in all the renderings ever released. I was under the impression that they were doing both, but I guess the logistics of that make it an either/or proposition, huh?

From what I was told from the architect, and this was when they had the spire shown in the rendering, she told me the spire could go or stay depending on if they client wanted the helipad.

I'll send them an email tomorrow and see what's up. Maybe we can get an update out of it, too.

Because the convention center occupies 6 blocks on the west side of this building, the views of this thing are going to be great from the west/northwest. Also Palm Park is to the north and I-35 is to the east. The only development that will really block the views of this building or from it is whatever development happens in the Waterfront District around Rainey Street.

To be honest, I'm not even mad about that HuffPo article. We could use the negative press. Way too many people are moving here way too fast. And he's kind of right. We're not as established as some other cities. That doesn't mean they have the same potential as us. In 10 years, I bet he'll be singing a different refrain.

This should have been a mute point. They knew about the situation, there is no reason not to make he forward NOW so when the tunnel is complete the Hotel will be almost ready to open.

No, I'm a grad student in political science with a focus on minority politics. I do, however, do intermittent work grading essays for the faculty in my department.

If they were allowed to shore up the sides of the creek with large rocks, I wonder if they would be allowed to begin construction. I think in the unlikely but possible event of a major flood, if they don't do any finish work to the sub floors or first floor until the tunnel is completed, the main problem would be pumping out water from them and any damage would be minimal. Possibly worth the risk. Sign a waiver and get on with the construction.

I didn't realize exactly how skinny and flat it was going to be (all the renderings have been from an angle making it look just a tiny bit fatter than this) but that makes sense. For those of you whose firewall doesn't block you from accessing the City's FTP site, below is the link to the full plan set. It includes floorplates, site and streets, as well as the roof configuration.

The developers also filed for a new permit this week concerning sidewalk right of ways around the development. It wasn't real clear to me exactly what it meant. But it did mention extending 2nd St to which was news to me.

I was referring to the 2nd ST extension to I35.
