Thanks gttx for posting an art deco example. I have studied this forum daily for five years and appreciate all informative posts. One of the cool stats I have seen are the number of views to the page compared to the number of replies; meaning there are alot of interested, perhaps uninformed lurkers out there enjoying the occasional lesson, like myself. What are Atlanta's most used styles and are they comparable to relative or sister cities?

I heard somewhere that as soon as this recession is over Midtown is going to get nearly 50 new skyscrapers.

I think that is probably a good bet. Although the ambiguity on a timeline is well-played.

That last one is actually really good looking. Something like that would fit in fronting juniper, maybe across from 12&M.

Frank Gehry, I believe.

Not sure who designed the Longaberger Basket building. It's a little creepy though.

How could they possible put 50 new skyscrapers in Midtown?? They would have to tear down houses and apartments to make room for 50 new skyscrapers in midtown. I just don't think that's possible. Now if its Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead then I can see that but not just Midtown.

I would be worried that a giant Yogi Bear would show up and steal my building.

From what I heard they're all going in Midtown. Buckhead is tapped out and Downtown will become a museum/library/multi-modal center.

Actually, thre are 5 buildings in the Midtown queue :
1.1400 Peachtree-could be the first out of the ground next year.
2. 1138 Peachtree/Mandarin Oriental-timing on this one a little shakey.
3.7th& Peachtree-The hines condo tower and boutique hotel project should be an eyeopener.
4.14th7 West Peachtree-Rumored Ritz Carlton midtown but Novare's involvment makes this less of a sure thing.
5. 1001 Peachtree-Dewberry project is rumored to be a supertall but between the economy and his health, who knows?

Isn't that how it goes? Something to think about: there were single-family homes lining north Broadway in Manhattan in the 1930's... things change rapidly.

Yea idk about 50, there's also Trump (2), 12th & MT Phase 3, Met Life (2), and at LEAST 3 towers for Atlantic Station.

But still, i think Buckhead's still gonna grow like crazy, it's just too nice & upscale hot spot NOT to. Hitlton spot, the terminus spots, Cityplace, the spot (occupied) accross from Terminus on Peachtree/Piedmont HAS to be used eventually. And if you look closely there's even a spot next to Two Alliance (dirt) that could fit another condo/office tower.

Can't wait for 2010+

...until an unprecedented post-war economic boom re-ignited the financial capital of the world that also happens to be on an island. Atlanta has not the space constraints, capital inflows, nor infrastructure to support like development. it will grow largely because of the COL/DB differentials between it and other major metros, but in general different time, different place, different context, different outcomes.

imho, there will likely be continued infill with the most drastic razing occurring to the West...there's considerable open space out there, inside the perimeter and a fraction of the cost. with an uptick on the bankhead line and a few street car lines, a whole lot of new city could be nicely integrated.
