...until an unprecedented post-war economic boom re-ignited the financial capital of the world that also happens to be on an island. Atlanta has not the space constraints, capital inflows, nor infrastructure to support like development. it will grow largely because of the COL/DB differentials between it and other major metros, but in general different time, different place, different context, different outcomes.
imho, there will likely be continued infill with the most drastic razing occurring to the West...there's considerable open space out there, inside the perimeter and a fraction of the cost. with an uptick on the bankhead line and a few street car lines, a whole lot of new city could be nicely integrated.
