How much do students actually spend on the various retailers on Granville Island?

Langara taking over most of Emily Carr's Granville Island facility for its arts programming is fantastic news!

I have no idea, but I worked on Granville Island for more than a decade and the Emily Carr presence was always felt. When classes were not in session it was noticeably more quiet.

Since a bustling ambiance is part of the appeal of the Island, having 2,500+ students and hundreds of faculty makes a big difference.

I wonder if Studio 58 will stay at Langara or move to the Island? If it moves, I could see a theatre being built as part of the renovations of the Emily Carr facility and that would further enhance the Island's cultural draw and likely get more bums in seats for Studio 58 shows, which in turn helps drive restaurant and bar visits and shopping and transit ridership and taxi trips, etc... One big virtuous cycle.

I know Opus is a big draw for them. I went to art school on the island and a lot of students would be sure to hit opus when they came over.

The first panels of glass have gone up on the PCI building:

I guess I've been hanging out on this forum long enough to have developed opinions about cladding, because I find it super disappointing

Hmm, the one facade treatment with the fins looks decent, not to sure on the rest of it though.

Going to go broken record here and say 3.0 FSR is just painfully low for a site that will be so well served by transit.

Yeah the fsr seems low. Why is the city so unwilling to encourage higher fsr? Also, I feel that having solar panels on the roofs would be better than grass. For a city that wants to be the greenest they are failing at these two issues

Green roofs are good for stormwater retention, in an area like the False Creek flats which has drainage complications, that is important.

Is it the city or the developer responding to market needs?

Been meaning to share some photos of the Emily Carr building and the project in front of it (that shall not be named, for reasons I'll explain below).

From my office, July 17th

July 24th

Now apparently the PCI building is going to be called "South Flatz", which is where things start going horribly wrong

July 20th, "leasing opportunitiez"

July 24th, "Community that inspirez"

Other sayings on the fencing advertisements include "Artz at the Flatz", "Rooftop Patioz", "Flatz Platz", and "Fitz at the Flatz". My coworkers have been mocking it incessantly, and we're not the only ones.

I don't know. But given the track record it's probably the former.
