I think Regina desperately needs more dense, residential infill. But...apartment or condo buildings on the exhibition grounds? With parking lot on one side and rail line on the other?

I'm as perplexed as you.

Why can't CPL just play at Mosaic Stadium?

For starters, they decided to stitch in the football lines into the turf instead of just paining lines on for whatever event the stadium was hosting.

But also because the stadium seats 33,000 people and a CPL team might draw 10k on a good day [source]. The atmosphere would be absolutely ruined by the cavernous stadium for the small crowd.

Well, that sounds like they don't plan on keeping the QCX going because if they get all those buildings there isn't much space for the midway.

And yeah, residential on the tracks? Yuck.

They stitched in both football and soccer lines.

Wouldn't you like a condo where you could watch the ferris wheel right outside your window on one side, and the trains and traffic (and planes) on the other?

Seriously, the midway would use up most of whatever parking lot would be left. Where would the fairgoers park? I hope they don't want us to build/pay for a new exhibition park elsewhere in the city, 'cause that's not going to happen.

A total of zero professional soccer teams play on football lines. Having multipurpose lines is fine for amateur leagues, but it's absolutely garbage for a professional.

The city should have not chosen to stitch any lines. Period.

I ran into the mayor yesterday, we did indeed chat about the railyards, but this did not come up.

Just more profit-seeking bullshit that is infecting every level of our communities. I’m sorry but this garbage needs to be called out. What next, no more parks because they don’t make the city money?

That was kind of the point I was making. I should have used the sarcasm smiley in my original post.

Actually, the National Post just ran an editorial saying that all city parks are a waste of space and money, and should be privatized!

City parks are a waste of space. Here's why they should be privatized.

Let's just say...it's a very dumb opinion piece.

I've read some poor articles in my life, but this one is one of the worst takes about public green spaces I've ever read. Woof.

I am honestly curious as to how this will affect the Queen City Ex. This will eat up a lot of the exhibition ground space so I do hope the city has thought this through. It would make zero sense for them to discontinue the Ex as it has been part of the city's economic and cultural lifeblood for decades.
