Beautiful Neighborhood!

Is that an expensive part of Hamburg to live in or is that average nowadays?

Hamburg looks really fantastic in these pics! I was there for one day some months ago and enjoyed it!

@ pompuss
the part with the "wilder" looking houses (graffiti) is the heart Schanzenquarter,a former affordable neighborhood with a very lively , trendy and punky image throughout the city and even in the nation.I think Irish musican "Reamon" and many others muscicans use to live there . The area gentrified in recent years by some yuppies and so , and became more expensive. There is now in Schanzenpark an old Watertower transformed into a 5 star spectacular 20 floor hotel , where many people from the quarter fought against in fear of gentrification .

The part with the buildings looking like Londons Chelsea /Kensington area was already above average , those pretty pre war buildings are the most wanted from tenants or buyers in this and many other "hoods".

@ Nightsky : Here is another cool area , a small part of Schanzen quarter .
Schanze is now oficially an own district , before it was only named Schanzenviertel where three neghborhoods intersected ( parts of Altona ,Eimsbuettel ), St Pauli north.Often confused with the small and tiny Karo 1/4 (next to St Pauli stadium and" high - bunker " , the Schanze is just north of it,corners away. The pics in this thread showing not the vibrant hotspots of Schanze , more the quite streets though...

I don't know how I missed this. Great thread! My dad's family is from there. My oldest aunt who just passed away last week was born in Hamburg in 1939.

Yeah, never a shortage of that in German cities.

Unfortunately Hamburg is kind of a dump. It's an industrial town and doesn't have a lot of culture unlike the southern part of Germany.

But nonetheless, it's interesting for its seedy Red Light District and a bustling music scene! Hamburg has a vibrant techno-music community and some world-famous techno clubs.

Hamburg is one of the cleanest / most modern / best organised cities that I've ever been too.

oviously, there's a strong rivalry between Munchen and Hamburg.

they really tried to play up the hamburg stereotypes in a most wanted man, but this looks like a bright, light flooded cheerful place.

I know this thread is very old, but perhaps the autor will read this . My question is , what neighborhood this is? Is this the Grindel , or an edge of the beatyful Eimsbuettel district and what " U " Bahn station is in one of the fotos in the background ? Nevertheless , lively and lovely area in a demanded city.
