I like how we are developing a skyline with several peaks - like Chicago IMO.

Incredibly exciting and love seeing something go from almost dead to 800+ feet.

But holy hell, Rainey is going to be a construction nightmare for years.

River Street Residences
84 East
90 Rainey
Travis I
Travis II
98 Red River Supertall
99 Red River WeWork
MACC Update
Blue Line Train Station/Bridge
Cut and Cap I-35 at the River

Bring it on baby

I have to say, the two towers are a pretty strange pair. #1 and #2 don't really mesh at all in terms of style -- even thought they seemingly share the same parking podium. Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm v. curious to understand how tower #2 came to be, and what M2 has to do with the original developer. Also how they get built -- at the same time or in phases? More details please.

M2 is targeting an April 2022 groundbreaking for the project, and said a name for the tower will be announced in the coming weeks. The project's anticipated opening date is the third quarter of 2025.

I like the 802’ feet height but I don’t like the design for this thing. It’s too simplistic but they did mention that more details and updates are sure to come. So here’s to hoping they keep the height and change the design a bit.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are the architects behind the Willis (Sears) Tower, and the John Hancock Building in Chicago, so hopefully we see a bit of that here.

i don't have an opinion yet since it looks like there are miles to go before we see something close to a final draft

I have started to think the same thing. Not financed yet, and -- while I'm sure pretty much anything that resembles this will find a loan eventually -- I'm not convinced this is the final product. Maybe I'm just hesitant, not knowing how the two developers are going to work on the same lot. Dunno. This feels not all the way cooked yet.

Looks like the sister of this development in Nashville is confirmed to be branded Ritz Carlton. https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...postcount=3997

It seems increasingly likely that this project will be a Ritz as well.

Could very well be. The Ritz-Carlton has had its eye on Austin. And, that dates back to the late 80's.

However, it could also be one of a number of other luxury bands like St. Regis, Mandarin Oriental, Park Hyatt, Rosewood, Peninsula, Capella, Waldorf Astoria, or Viceroy. Or it could be another brand's first foray into Texas or the U.S. (i.e., Aman, One&Only, Belmond, Six Senses, Shangri La, Raffles, Como, Sofitel, or Oberoi). One can dream, right?!?

Oh, remember, 98 Red River is supposed to have a luxury branded hotel as part of its development.

My top 3 bet is St. Regis / Ritz / Waldorf

Very conceivable. Austin is still mostly missing the luxury segment . . . though I'd expect that to change rapidly with all these HQ relos/general biz dev coups we keep experiencing.

I definitely want to see this one break ground asap (or has it?)

I can see Ritz for sure being a success here....Virgin as well, but this is likely too big for them.

Does this tower have to wait on the shorter one to start?

Oh what a nice change from the previous rendering. Two building that relate to each other and are attractive. I look forward to more renderings. That's when a more formal critique can be given. Regardless; what a tall and handsome skyline Austin has in the making!

Minority here that prefers old design. Is SOM still doing this? I'd love to see more renders.

Just kinda reminds me of "Modern" on Rainey
