I guess the vertical elements aren't going to be stone like I originally thought. This older rendering had me thinking it was. Hopefully it doesn't come off looking generic up close.

Yes, but not in this area of Chicago, which is shitty beige-city.

B-Vic, where did you find that stupid rendering? They better not have butchered the western setbacks!

It's not just that, they eliminated setbacks on all sides in that rendering. Hopefully it's just a simplified rendering to show the massing and roofdeck.

Oh man, I want to believe this is the reason ... but we've been burned before. I think it's in all our best interests to assume this new simplified version is what we're getting. Do it for your heart.

i would tend to agree.

the new rendering from Bvic likely shows the current design after a round of VE chopping eliminated some of the more costly fine-grained articulation of the setbacks.

If it's true then it drops out of my top 5 all time favorites. I really hope they maintain the better design. The entire point of this building was to inspire growth and development in that part of the city "a la billionaire's row nyc". Hurting the design would lessen the ability of this building to achieve that.

Both of those renderings are actually out of date. This is the most current. The differences are very subtle.

But would they have built an outdated model?

Something's not right about that rendering. . . it shows the building coming all the way up to the lot line along the Superior Street side - where there's an existing building that's not going away on the corner at Dearborn. . . weird. . .

The rendering from above with the simplified western setbacks and the slot running the full height of the south facade of the shorter tower is very old...dating from over two years ago. That's the old, more complex podium design too and from back when the developer thought they would buy out the corner building as well. The model and the rendering from regarri4 are most current.

You are correct...there are now balconies on the southwest and northwest corners of the tower on the upper floors, They will be screened by the facade on the north and south and only directly open to the west.
