The ABJ article about this project says Carr is also close to purchasing the 99 Trinity Site.

I didn't hate the old design. I freaking loved the black facade and the texture of it. I just didn't like the shape of the tower. This is good, too, but...I think it's less unique.

Still, I like the facade and it reminds me a bit of the international style of architecture. It reminds me a lot of the Bank of America Center in Austin and Pennzoil Place in Houston, at least, the facade does. Now, if it's still black, that would be cool. Still, it bites that they axed the old design.

As for the height, a 43-story office tower screams it being a 600 footer for me. I'm thinking 675 feet or so. I think the renderings are being intentionally vague about the height. The rendering looking west seems to show it around 550 feet tall compared to the JW Marriott. The rooftop rendering looking down on One Congress Plaza seems to suggest it being at least 600 feet.

Block 16 Office Tower Moves Forward With a New Look in Downtown Austin

https://austin.towers.net/block-16-o...wntown-austin/

The Block 16 office tower, first announced in 2020 at the southern half of the block bound by San Jacinto Boulevard, Trinity, and Second Streets in downtown Austin, has a new developer sharing the wheel and an all-new design on deck. National real estate investors Carr Properties announced today in a press release that the firm is partnering with the locals at Manifold Real Estate to develop the tower, now planned as a 43-story office building containing up to 738,000 square feet atop its site directly west of the Austin Convention Center.

Looks nice, but it sure did get cut off at the knees.

Another slanty top.

Indeed Tower - accident

98 Red River - trend

Block 16 - pattern

Looks nice, but Gensler really needs to try some new stuff. They’re getting very predictable with their designs.

So much for the Shoe bill bird building, or the SBBB. I love how some of my negative comments are respected by the architects, enough to do a complete redesign. To the one or two other haters... you're welcome. Too bad it didn't work on 3rd and Shoal.
The redesign looks sooooooooo much better.

I mostly like the re-design, but damn it's more blue glass. Guess it just means surrounding future projects will really pop!

With all this western dt development, then 98 RR to the east we got a lil Chicago thing going on!

Ha! That's exactly how I feel. I'll give it a thumbs up though; it's certainly better than the previous version.

It reminds me of one of these things.

Could be a fun idea for a moving light feature....

Looks to have shrunk by a fair amount, but I don’t mind this new design.

Yes, it's well below 700' now. But we have a couple posters on here who will continue to disagree until we see the elevations.

I love this rendering, from a technical standpoint. The angled light makes those notches really pop, in ways that it didn't on the first couple of pics we've seen. You can also see how those angled supports work as part of the whole design aesthetic. IMO they make much more sense.

If it goes forward like this, it'll definitely be a memorable part of our skyline.

It's definitely a step up in the design department. Not as exciting as perennial tower but they my complement each other well.

WoW is my first impression! It will add a nice dimension to the skyline if it pokes above the plateau. However, its placement so close to the river and Congress might keep it in view for a long time even if it is a bit shorter.

The silver gray color will please some here. Not Blue Again. Angled columns again some might not like, I however, feel they make sense on this design, being on the end of the building. The subtle ribbing from one side of the building to the other between openings, is a nice variation. I Like It

Now that I think about it, won't the Conrad block this view?

Depends on the exact angle, but probably not? I think the would appear directly next to this building on the right from this angle.

Those cutouts sure look a lot like the window line of the Tesla factory.
