What age are you?

Seeing some posters in a thread reminiscing about the long ago bar days, I was curious about what the demographics are that frequent the boards.

Didn't this place skew a bit younger in years past? Maybe it's just me, but back in the early 2000s it felt like it was mostly students and people not that far out of school. I get the impression that these days there aren't many students left around.

Well yeah, but the point is that there hasn't been an influx of new younger users. I guess this type of old school forum is probably below the radar of the youngsters out there, with their newfangled "SNAP CHAT" and "INSTANT GRAM".

Well, if a forumer was 25 in 2004, they are turning 40 this year...

I didn't frequent many night spots not named the Royal Albert Arms in my younger days, but I do remember ending up at a few circa 1999-2002:
- The Pemby, which seemed to be the skater bro bar at the time, yet there I was
- Scandals, for my sins
- Lot 115 at 115 Bannatyne... the space is probably HTFC's staff hot yoga studio/break room now
- Blue Agave in the old Masonic Hall at Donald and Ellice, which was actually kind of nice (and also haunted)

I think reddit has taken the place of many dedicated forums.

Good list! I think we're of a similar vintage.

I wasn't exactly a regular at those types of places, but I generally enjoyed Wise Guys, Wise Guys on Campus as well as the OG pubs, Toad in the Hole and King's Head.

I find it somewhat hilarious that as of this post, we have a septuagenarian but no teenagers represented!

I’m really surprised but I guess it makes sense. Communicating in complete sentences seems to have gone out of style.

I remember feeling ridiculously old on the day of the first Winnipeg forum meet (I was 37), with esquire being then about 22 or so and not especially young by SSP standards. But now I’d be at the median age of the whole group!

Not only was SSP younger in the past, but gayer too. There were so many gays here it was like .. .. a place where gays frequent.

I was only in high school when I created this account.

My name hasn't aged that well, but I'm like "eh, screw it. It's my name, and it will stick like butter!"

...because it doesn't make sense!

I remember that... that get together had the feel of a university student society meeting. I suspect there would be a fair bit more grey hair at such a gathering now

Club Strawberry on a sunday night was great.

Albert street had an Underground (literately) reggae club called whispers.

Times had great drink specials

Richards American Bar on portage

Opium night club had 2 floors, actually quite nice inside but not too packed.

I was quite a bar start in the 90's

Got you all beat it seems. Just turned 57.

I doubt that any of my haunts from my one year at the UofM (1981) are still around anymore.
The Maryland Hotel?
UMZOO?
