At my friend's recommendation, I flew to Penang for a weekend trip 2 weeks ago to check it out. I've heard of it before but didn't really think to visit it, but after my trip I was not disappointed at all! It's a small island (about the same size as Singapore) with a UNESCO-protected city of George Town as its main city. On the northern end of the island is a laid back resort town (Batu Ferringhi) and a nice national park to hike in.
English is very widely-spoken in Penang. From what my taxi driver told me, most people there speak all speak 2-3 of English, Malay and Mandarin. Cost of things is fairly low, with a Grab from the airport costing only $6USD.

Some photos I took, all with my phone (OnePlus 6). Enjoy!
First, George Town
