yeah, i really like the retro feel of it. i'm hoping this will help spark more dense development on the west side; it's been too quiet for too long over there.

The groundbreaking for Hotel Renegade took place recently, and the press release has a nice video rendering of the proposal.

the video doesn't include the recently completed 10-story 11th and Idaho building or the proposed 27-story residential tower, both of which would be in this shot.

screen cap from video:

link to press release.

a 35-floor proposal is rumored for the 10th and Front property, indicated below.

two hotels are also rumored to be in the works for the north half of that block. the surface parking lot on the left center is already being developed into Hotel Renegade.

a new 14-floor Marriott hotel proposal was just announced by the Idaho Statesman. it will be a high-end, dual-brand hotel on the north half of a current surface parking lot. the south half is rumored to be a 34-floor residential tower.

no renderings yet.

Boise is undergoing a downtown hotel boom. We're going to need them as our tourist industry continues to grow.

The Hotel Renegade construction a block away from the new proposed Marriott is moving along.

the block just south of the Renegade is going to soon be surrounded by high-density developments. most if not all of the buildings on that block are occupied, but it's prime real estate for more high-density buildings instead of the one-two floor structures that are there now.

SCB has a page for the 12th and Idaho tower with a few renderings. they were hoping to break ground in June, but there's no activity yet.

That 12th/Idaho tower is incredible! Is it a new tallest? I had long suspected that, if Boise was to grow a taller skyline, the odds on location would be west of the current core and towards I-184 and Garden City. If GC shows, as it has been, that it would also go tall, it could make for a truly scenic urban/river interface.

Micron broke ground on the new 600,000 sq ft fabrication facility at its east Boise campus. construction can't start until the permits are filed and approved, but the company did say they expect the facility to be up and running by 2025.

picture i took of the east end of downtown. many of these buildings were completed in just the last couple of years. most were one-story buildings or surface parking lots.

couple of updates in this week's Idaho Statesman:

1 - the Avens on the west end of downtown is about to break ground. image from the Statesman:

the city is hoping this is one of many projects that will spur development in the West End, which has long been an area of blight and empty surface lots for years. there are multiple other residential proposals for the area; the Avens is the first to move forward.

2 - Boise State has plans to construct an on-campus, 8-floor student dorm that would be 100ft tall. No details, including location and timing, have been revealed.

Fire Station 5 proposal for West Downtown looks to include affordable housing as part of the development.

Quote:
Station 5 is Idaho’s busiest station! The proposed structure will replace the existing station that has served the City for over 60 years. The new project will help better serve the community and improve the health and safety of firefighters.

In addition to planning and design for a new fire station the design team looked at ways for the City to increase affordable housing stock by better utilizing this half block in West Downtown.

a few images showing the construction on the west side.

there will be a lot more construction further behind these cranes if all of the west side residential projects get going.

College of Western Idaho (CWI) is hoping to build an urban campus on the west end of downtown, with multiple structures up to 12 floors in height and plenty of green space along the river.

Images below are from boisedev.com. Full story is here.
