Banani DCC-Unique Complex Rising in Dhaka

Serving as the nation's capital, the historically rich Dhaka, Bangladesh has been developing its skyline in an attempt to establish itself as a modern city. As one of the world's most populous cities, Dhaka has responded to the population boom anf tourism in the area by approving many new projects in the city, including the Banani DCC-Unique Complex. Borak Real Estate is the principal developer for the project which is currently under construction and will house a shopping mall as well as commercial office spaces.

Hi, the building is just the house of a very rich guy, built in the shape of a boat Commonly referred to as the "Jahaj Bari" or "Ship House". That the house is intended to look like a ship or boat is more easily appreciated from the side, as below:

Thank you. Ahsan Manzil is a nice colonial era mansion, and was home to the most important family in Dhaka at the time. Another picture of this complex:



When I myself was a child living in the older part of Dhaka, there were many colonial era mansions. I lived in one of them, that my great grandfather built. Unfortunately almost all of them have either been torn down (including the house I lived in), or survive in advanced states of neglect. Ahsan Manzil is the rare exception.

Here is a picture of my family house, taken not long before it was torn down, about ten years ago:

A view of Nagar Bhaban. When this was built early 1990s it was the City Hall for the whole city. Now (as of a few years ago) Dhaka has been split into two municipalities, so this serves as the city hall for the southern half of town. The building is a nice work of post-modernism. The photo is by sajjadnayan.
