They are not seriously attempting to call this property "Central Austin," are they?

I thought the same thing. People here always argue about these terms. I had someone try to tell me Crestview is central Austin.

Three miles from 6th and Congress is pretty central imo in a city encompassing 300+ square miles and stretches into Williamson and Hays counties.

I mean, if we consider 183, 360, and Ben White as a loop, it's in the inner loop.

Yeah, I could see arguments from folks that aren't from here that it is centrally located. But locals wouldn't consider that Central Austin.

That said, I like to see more densification on narrow lots.

I always thought of Central Austin of between Loop 1 & IH-35 and between 51st Street and Town Lake. That area to me would be East Austin.

Totally agreed. If you really want to broaden things, "Central Austin" could include south to Oltorf, east to Pleasant Valley, west to Mopac, and North to 51st/Keonig.

But either way, Airport and 71 right here is most certainly "East Austin"...

This is basically my definition.

I include Tarrytown, Zilker, and Barton Hills as well. This creates a one-two neighborhood buffer around Downtown/Capitol Complex/University in each direction comprising roughly a square around downtown.

Specifically,

On the north, moving west: Hancock, North Loop, 53rd, 53rd 1/2, and Tannehill Branch (the creek just north of 51st east of I-35).

On the east: Springdale (north of the river) and South Pleasant Valley (south of the river).

On the south: Oltorf (east of Lamar) and Lamar (south of Oltorf).

On the west: Barton Creek and the Colorado River but also including Zilker park.

Central Austin overlaps with all of North Austin (starts at 38th), East Austin (starts at I-35), West Austin (starts at Shoal Creek), and South Austin (starts at the river). Hence, Central East Austin, Central North, etc.

I have for years wanted to put together a neighborhood, area, regional map of Austin with everyone’s input since this topic comes up quite often that we could utilize for a standardized way of discussing “regions” of development, but wasn’t sure if there would be anyone who wanted to deal with interacting with me. If anyone wants me to do this and present a starting point off of which we could build, let me know.

And nothing wrong with the developer owning up to east Austin. It's a buzzing place with tons of development happening. But I guess central sounded better?

The masonry on EastPoint seems to be really high quality. The brick looks great and is definitely a step above the siding on nearby 5-over-1s. Trailhead Phase 2 is particularly lackluster. No photos unfortunately but it's all part of the Airport development cluster. Driving through there every day for the past few years has been a wild experience.

Agreed on Centro East. I think I like the look and facade of "original" Centro more, but this is still far above what the default we've seen elsewhere on the east side
