I believe there is some glass showing on Vista from post #4312. Just curious if it has a protective coating as used on Central Park Tower in NY.

In short, the glass manufacturer doesn't have the experience to pull this off. Their product is not able to pass a mockup and the developer may be forced to select a new manufacturer. The glass you are seeing is not new and likely will be replaced when this whole fiasco is figured out, which may not be until the structure is topped out. There is plenty of detailed conversation about the glass charade and Ryugyong references in the previous pages of this thread. In any case, its too early for CPT comparisons

Just to be clear again, there isn't any problem with the insulated glass panels or the 'glass manufacturer' that I have heard of... in fact, they intend to use all of the glass panels that have already been manufactured to date (which, AFAIK, includes most of the tower) in the final cladding...

The problem rests with the window frame manufacturer and specifically the design and manufacturing of the aluminium frames that hold the glass... these can be quite complex in section and are expected to not only hold the insulated glass panels in place in the face of high winds but it is the frames, of course, not the glass, that have to keep the water, often driven by wind-fueled rain, from entering the building...

Well put. As a former automotive tool designer, I can imagine how complex the frames would be with a building of this style.

Exactly. The financial implications of this will be huge. All that glass that has been manufactured must be paid for. The supply chain involved with the window manufacturer in question must be paid up for committed project materials, resources, loss of profit from this monumental delay (if they're lucky). Cashflow is King people and when a disruption like this turns up, its fatal.

The tone variation in the glass floor slab edges is very pronounced in this photo.

On the last tower now pretty much and over 75% done as far as floor count goes. Exciting - how long until it's topped out?

22 floors since June so sometime in November (early December at latest) would be my guess.

I doubt they will. If all these proposed towers along the river get off the ground, this will really be the last good riverfront site in the city core. Its going to sell for a ton and the developer will need to build to the sky in order to recoup real estate expenses.
