I just really hate the way the smallest building interacts with the street and the sidewalk. It's crooked. Why can't it just be catty-cornered like a normal building? I mean, if it's going to have a cafe there, that's one thing, but if not, then I just don't like it. I'm willing to bet it will have a cafe there, though. There has to be some reason they're designing it like that.

Still think this is a filler project to help Sutton sell the property. But I do like the sound of a grocery store on this side of town. With all the residential on Rainey and the East side, I think that part would be a great success.

I agree with your comments. However, Sutton & Co does not own the property. Perry Lorenz still owns all of the parcels which would comprise Waller Park Center.

Everything is falling into place in that area. Now the WCCG project can have confidence about their project because Fairmont and this are moving forward.

I completely disagree. Have you seen the new renderings? They made some key changes and I think it looks pretty amazing now.

I agree with almost everything you say... and this is no exception. Those designs are truly horrifying. They look like they stole the designs off some futuristic game from early 2000s. My eyes are confused when I stare even at the new designs... it's as if I'm looking at some abstract painting whose artists aim is to disorient the viewer. If the designs were one unified color I don't think I'd dislike it this much.

But in a strange way I'm still excited. I hope its only still in its outline phases and we get a few redesigns like the Fairmont's designs have gone through.

I am so excited by the new developments this week. All extremely positive news across the board. Waller Creek Center, The Fairmont, Greenwater all happening at the same time will be incredible. Austin's downtown growth will officially hit an invincible level once these projects all get going. Looking good and my fingers are crossed things go smoothly with all of these projects and they get started. Makes me wonder what else is store if we can actually have such substantial projects actually happen all at the same time.

I don't really like the buildings either. They do have a couple features I kinda like, but as a whole, I find them to be odd. I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps it is the program they're using. I don't like the podiums at all.

I don't think these will be the final designs.

I prefer the conceptual rendering on page 1 with crown modifications to the most recent renderings. What I like about it, minus the Austonian like crown, is the cohesiveness of the three towers and the modern skyscraper look that our skyline has a deficiency of. Unfortunately, for condos and apartments, balconies
would have to be added and that would ruin the look I prefer. Also, and we discussed this before, condos and apartment towers have a common denominator, they generally turn out the same, generic and pretty much architecturally challenged to keep the cost down. If they try to tie all 3 towers together for cohesive reasons, then they all will suffer from the condo tower design. If they try to match up to a sleek glass office tower, then the condos may have to forfeit balconies. Anyway you slice it, we're getting yet another cookie cutter condo tower, only this time a cluster of 3 towers most of us won't like. I get what wwmiv is saying...its time to break the mold that threatens our skyline to be boring and repetitive. We need architecture thats sleek, glass and shiney and ahead of its time, almost futuristic. Austin is ready for a signature tower. We have enough towers now and in the works to warrant something unique.
I'm sure any recommendations I have to improve the designs would be rejected as cost prohibited, such as a shit ton of angles and curves and glass up the ass.

Either way... something that never aged well was brutalist architecture. Not sure what this type of design is, but the designs on this project reminds me a little of it and this more likely will certainly not age well as opposed to that rendering in Shanghai (which I love, btw).

If you dislike that twizzler's looking building... how could you even remotely like this design? That is beyond me.

It is art deco, but it is also starchitecture.
