One of my family members who works for a local media outlet was telling me that a few years ago some women staged a protest against "soldiers who had raped women during tours of service". Now I can understand that it was a seemingly noble cause, the only problem was that they did it at Victory Square on Remembrance Day. Obviously, the public backlash was huge and the protesters had to later issue an apology.

Just saw footage of the protesters on Commercial. Every single one had a bandana or balaclava covering their face. One even said to the CTV camera 'don't film me'. Bloody hypocrites. Pretty clear they have no real message, no real goal but to stir shit up. Even a full-time protester is smart enough to realize no one is gong to listen to a bunch of masked thugs.

And the thing at Victory Square is disgusting. Making veterans cry, good job assholes...

exactly

there are close to or over 1000 at the VAG right now

CTV here in vancouver is doing nonstop live coverage of everything going on right now - its pretty amazing - they have people on robson, burrard, georgia, outside the stadium...

that said there are police everywhere every corner for days now there are huge amounts of them at the VAG as well as at the Hotel Vancouver

i'd like to practice my freedom of speech on them, with the VPD's sonic weapon. That's speech right? It's barely as shrill as the voice of those whiny infantile protestors.

Their website claims all of BC is stolen land and can not, and should not, legally exist within Canada.

1000 little poop disturbers changes nothing. The ceremony was magic, the vibe after was magic, everyone is so nice and friendly. It's great.

one was against art cuts

CTV is reporting that a protest group has smashed windows at the Bay downtown.

If this is true, it's time we eff up these protestors. They've exceeded their right to freedom of speech. Now the RCMP and the VPD have some room to work - and by work, I mean justified police brutality (I joke....not)

they would have had more respect with passive protest - I always wonder though of there's a certain element that gets involved just to do this sort of thing, like the old 'national front' days in the UK.

They will likely get released with a "No-go" to any Olympic venue.

Police being too tolerate and passive against them actually hurts the image of Vancouver.

Yesterday "more peaceful" protests already gained quite a high international media attention as I read the news source from other countries

A 16 day sentence seems like a good idea.

And last night...

Quote:
Some protesters sprayed vinegar in officers' eyes, threw sticks, and spit on officers, police said.

Two officers were injured with flying objects and one was sent to hospital with a shoulder injury but was treated and released, said Const. Lindsey Houghton.

Like they'd obey that. Don't forget that courts are out of session until after the Olympics.

There has to be cause to remand in custody - which tends to be the exception not the rule. Court is still in session - may be trials aren't sitting but first appearances and bail hearings will take place. Besides hearings can be held at a police station using a JP.

I'm going to give LOCAL protesters the benefit of the doubt, and say the people doing the smashing are the anarchist anti-Globalist people who have come from Europe and etc.

Window smashing is relatively tame compared to their usual antics, though.

I'm not sure why the networks are giving that self proclaimed "independent observer" Alissa Westergard-Thorpe airtime. She's so obviously not independent. Here's her photo, in case anyone bumps into her on the street:

Watching these idiot domestic terrorists on tv, I feel like going down there and smashing their heads against the pavement repeatedly.
