What is the 5 story building on the block east of the Westin? I can't make out the signage. I like the entryway but not so much the rest of it.
Somehow I never noticed it before. Is the entryway a recent renovation? It looks nicer and newer from the rest of the building. Like how the Colorado Tower is presenting itself, but I think I'm going to be disappointed with the height. 44 floors would have filled that space nicely.

I believe that it was once the local health department before conversion into lofts. It was one of the earliest loft conversions downtown in the late 1990s. Prior to that, it was a run down government building built in the "moderne" period, probably one of the few such buildings in Austin.

I work at one of the Hilton restaurants, and I agree it's a great view. I just wish they'd consider some improvements to Brush Square (the green space in the foreground) in the near future. I walk past it nearly every day, and though it houses some historic structures, much of it is vastly underused. Considering it may soon be situated right at a key transfer point between the current MetroRail and the new urban rail, a facelift would be welcome.

It's been a good 5 years since I was last active on here. Been off at school in Iowa. It blows my mind how much the skyline has changed in that amount of time. Went kayaking today and snagged a few images (you'll notice kayaks aren't the best of platforms):

It would be neat to capture the difference of driving down 1st st (Cesar Chavez) from mopac to 35 now as opposed to what it will look like in 2-3 yrs. Should be quite a transformation and the before and after should be dramatic.

Nice Time lapse video of downtown. I especially like the street lights synchronized to the music.

I was down on the Austin High football practice fields this morning. Really cool view of downtown. Didn't have my camera with me, though.

Love that vantage point. It really frames the skyline well. Still can't believe the change in the last 10 yrs, and the fact that there's more to come, crazy.
