Sinkhole swallows transport truck

Hillyard north of Burlington closed

Police have closed a side street in north Hamilton after what appears to be a sinkhole in the road swallowed the wheels of a tractor trailer.

The white big rig was headed south on Hillyard Street just shy of Burlington Street this morning when the rear wheels of the tractor sank into the ground.

There were no injuries, but the front wheels of the truck were lifted clear of the pavement

City road crews are en route and police are directing traffic at the intersection.

Hillyard north of Burlington is closed and there is no word on what the trailer was hauling.

An expensive mess to clear up. They said the hole is about 6 metres deep.

London, ON had a huge sinkhole right downtown on Wellington a couple years ago.

Sink holes are not uncommon and happen in every city. There have been many in the past and it will happen again. Only difference with this one was it got a lot of press because a BIG truck got stuck in it. Lucky we don’t get the ones some cities get that swallow whole buildings!
