Smile NEW YORK | City of Shores

More than anything, New York is a city of shores, be it the ocean or the many riverfronts. It's the New York most people don't think about,
but a very important aspect of the city and the communities that front the shore.

That last photo could easily be mistaken for New Orleans. Well done.

Yeah, there are miles and miles of beachfront in the city, from Brooklyn, to Queens, and Staten Island. Even the Bronx has a beach, although it was created with sand from the other shores. I didn't intend to post so many from the Rockaways, but there is just so much there, it can go on and on.

Probably the best known waterfront in all of the city would be Coney Island, Brooklyn, though technically it's not an island anymore.

Probably the best known residents of Coney:

Coney Island is currently undergoing a major transformation, although the Cyclone, Wonder Wheel, and Parachute Jump will always be there.

Going all the way Uptown to the borough of the Bronx, the only part of the city on the "mainland", but surrounded by water on three sides.
Orchard Beach and City Island are two of the Bronx's better known waterfront destinations.
Pelham Bay Park also happens to be the largest park in the entire city.

Manhattan, of course, is not immune from the waterfront bonanza. The northern shores of the island are very different from the middle and southern points.

You have done the city and the region a great service....great pics! This is what NY (metro region especially) is really like and I wish more people knew about it including other parts outside the city like the Hudson Valley (Bear Mtn), Eastern Long Island (out to Montauk), Conn, NJ shore etc.... Great work...please add some more! Thanks

Yeah, I know most people only think of New York in terms of Manhattan. But I've lived in 4 of the 5 boroughs (sorry Staten Island), so I'm outter borough by nature. Manhattan only accounts for less than 10% of the city land mass. So when you look at the city in depth, it's going to look a lot different than what many people expect. I've limited the shoreline photos to just the boroughs because it would be far too much to include the entire region.

Anyway, I'll be posting a lot more photos in this thread.

Funny you should mention the Warriors. I took a brief walk around Coney last Friday (too much sand blowing with the cold wind)
and got a few shots. Interupting this thread with a couple of my own...
