The Opsal Steel building:

Quote:
Now architect Peter Busby is leading the conversion of the building with Bastion Development into a residential complex. Many of the building's distinct features, including the original timbers, will be preserved. The building will literally be taken apart then put back together after excavation and construction on the site is completed.
http://vancouver.ca/Greaterdot_wa/index.cfm?fuseaction=GVTV.storyDet&storyid=379

Quote:
One of the mandates of the project is to salvage and incorporate the heavy timber framework, wooden siding and windows of the building into the new development. The timber frame will be documented and numbered, dismantled, removed and stored off-site. Much of the original cladding will be salvaged and reused for partitions in the interior courtyard.
http://www.bastiondevelopment.com/developments/opsal/index.php

So it appears the structure will be dimantled esp. the heavy timber framework. The site will be excavated, underground parking put in place, and then the original heavy timber framework re-assembled.

I doubt that the roof planking itself was to be part of the re-assembly.

Still falling here around the South Granville area. Looks like 4-5 inches of new stuff so far.

I've had enough as well. All I want is to walk around without slipping all over the place.

I just drove into Van from Calgary and it was clear skies all the way to Hope then the snow only starts maybe around Abbotsford. I was amazed to see the amount still left in the city and amazed at the amount falling right now. Crazy....

I was riding the 98 bus on Granville when all the drivers parked aside taking up two lanes of Granville. Luckily, our bus driver wasn't convinced and he decided to continue driving... more like slipping down the hill but we made it down safely.

as asked at cfun.com

What do you think?

Would you be in favour of paying an extra nominal amount on your home owners property tax to receive improved snow removal in heavy snowfall years?

Yes 45%
No 55%

The snow is coming down extremely hard, I think this is the worse it has ever been over the last month in the UBC area. 2 cms fell over the last hour alone.

OK, rant time, the weather is now really starting to piss me off. We are around 3 weeks with snow on the ground right now, yes we have had big snow falls in the past, but the longest i can remember without seeing the grass again was two weeks back in the early 90's. Even the big one of 96 only stuck around for about half this time.

Now this is what is really pissing me off, every day in the forecast it is the next day that will finally warm up and bring rain in to clear the snow, but everyday that next day is pushed one more day into the future. Today is the perfect example, originally yesterday was suppose to be maybe a slushy cm of snow then change to rain and today was a relatively warm 6 degree rain festival. Then the forecast changed, instead yesterday became a big snow storm and this morning was the change to rain, that didn't happen. It warmed up to 4 degrees this afternoon, oh good, the precipitation tonight will be rain, nope! Now it is snowing out like a mother fucker again in Metrotown! If it is not raining by tomorrow morning i will be so angry. I want a warm tropical pineapple express to burst its way in here, bring 13 degree weather and 100mm of rain. I honestly don't care about the floods, i just want this white shit gone!

I love snow, but on the mountains!

ugh, sorry, i had to

The real kicker is almost everyday since Christmas in Victoria and west vancouver island has been around 5+. The cold air just doesn't want to leave this valley!

i just went on my break and its coming down fast and wet and heavy

they said it will turn to rain tonight and we should expect 30mm of rain!

the am730 forecast calls for +7 tomorrow! a low of +4 and 60% rain
tuesday is a high of +9 low of +5
and the rest of the week is about the same

so I think the warm weather is here and the snow should be disappearing finally!
