Yeah for sure. This concrete super structure is pretty interesting to see in person. Doesn't fit the usual mold of what we are used too. Lop that onto its immediate environment and its even better.

It's interesting the Quebec side right away falls into that Ho-Hum Brigil kind of style but the island is pretty much all eye catching designs, even beyond the standard for Ottawa.

Is this one basically the same height as the existing tower on the island?

This one is 23 floors/75 meters vs the existing tower at 25 floors/78.5 meters. I don't think the difference will be perceivable.

At this point it's a parking lot/brownfield with no urgency from the developer to complete it any time soon.

It has the retail spaces and plazas to become a true gathering place, but retailers don’t seem interested in opening there at the moment. As downtown continues to expand westward with the new library and Odenak, Zibi’s appeal will likely grow though its future may ultimately depend on whether the downtown arena actually gets built.

Personally I am eager to see what is done with the existing legacy spot on the southern end. Would be a great location for some patios and art spaces etc. Could easily be turned into a mini Distillery district. Dying to see those preserved turbine things get placed somewhere permanently.

Even just the string lights across the parking lot in its semi abandoned state has some appeal to it.

^ thats a nice angle! I was walking around Zibi Yesterday and I like how the podium looks on the new tower UC Not something we've seen much in Ottawa yet.

Sounds like we're going to get a DevApp for the Hull block on the corner of Laurier and Eddy very soon. 240 units. Hoping we get more info/renderings within the next few days.

Sorry, Gatineau's version of DevApp. Nowhere as good as Ottawa's version.

New 23 floor proposal on the Hull side for Zibi with 240 units. Two level underground parking.

Quite plain, but with quality materials, and if they keep the red brick podium, it will be a nice addition to the Hull skyline.

Thanks to Julien from Sidetrack - RFC Community on Discord.

Stats:
  • 73m tall
  • 240 units total
  • 59 affordable units
  • 388 m2 retail space
  • 75 parking spaces
  • 240 bike parking spaces

Unit breakdown:
  • 21 studios
  • 174 1 bed (22 with den)
  • 45 2 bed (3 with den)

Description:

It seems Dream has decided to go the safe route with pretty every Zibi project on the Gatineau side, unfortunately. They seem to want to focus more on the Ottawa side with higher quality designs.

But yes, with the red brick podium and high quality materials, it could look quite decent.
