Those GB shots show why navigation charts or GPS is so important there. There are shoals everywhere and some sit just inches below the surface. It's peaks and valleys all over. One second you're in 65 feet of water and the next you're in 2 feet of water. My BIL broke off his prop in the Waubashene area of GB and the rock formations there are pretty spread out. Nothing like in those pics.
My neighbour went on a dude's weekend trip last week, golfing around Barrie first then staying in an island cottage in Honey Harbour. They went fishing too.
Not sure if it's the same area as in the photos you posted, but the area is called 30,000 islands for a reason. GB is often called the sixth Great Lake if one separates it from Lake Huron.
Awesome photos of Georgian Bay. I mentioned this in another thread but it has to be one of the most underrated areas in Canada. It's the world's largest freshwater archipelago, 30,000 islands. Relatively unknown considering that. It may be an accessibility issue as you pretty much need a boat to see explore it.
Yeah, need a boat, but nothing special (even a Kayak is fine) The 30,000 islands run along the eastern shore so it's close to land and population centres. Lots of launches and should be fairly well protected from the winds of GB. So I do agree that it's lesser known than it should be.
There's multiple cruise ships to go on tours with. There's one I regularly see in Penetang Harbour and then there's the one I saw out of Parry Sound.
I'll be up north for the last week of August so gotta find some things to keep me occupied. Need to think of a couple new spots to launch out of that I've never been. Preferably scenic. Problem is that I don't know where the fishing spots are so while the landscape may be pretty, the fishing could be a real miss, which has happened to me several times before.

It's interesting you say that about your friend. My brother has been fixing up his cabin there for a few years, and I finally got the chance to go last week. He's been telling me for over a year that it's his favourite place on earth.
It's definitely a special and beautiful part of the world, and it seems to really get its hooks into people. It takes a long time to get there though.
Some photos of the Greenbelt, which includes the Oak Ridges Moraine and Niagara Escarpment. Area is under high pressure from development. It serves to protect green space, farmland, forests, wetlands, and watersheds.
Damn, I love the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands. I hate that my job forces me to be in London (Ontario), very far away from any mountains.
Really nice shots of the Greenbelt. Very much worthy of preservation.

The municipality of Irlande is located 15 km northwest of Thetford Mines. I had the occasion to work there recently. I thought I would share some images of the place.
Irlande is at the foot of the same geological formation than in Thetford Mines. Asbestos mining was practiced in the southern part of the municipality and has left impressive haldes (waste mounds) that continue to pollute the river as of today.
I also took those pictures in septembre, same municipality. I think they show better that the centre of the municipality is a series of lakes that are part of the upper stream of Bécancour river.
