Extremely disappointing. Granted it's based completely on feelings, but it seems that that this mayor's office cares less about preservation than any other in recent memory.

919 W Fulton is modifying their Planned Development to allow up to 155 hotel rooms as an allowed use. That doesn't mean for certain they'll replace some of the office space with hotel rooms, but it's a possibility

I’m pretty sure they mentioned converting the existing apartment building on the corner of Peoria and Lake into a hotel, which is part of the PD zone. So I’m guessing this modification is for that

Noticed a whole bunch of lines in the concrete at Kinzie and Carpenter in Fulton Market. I’m wondering if it may mean they’re burying the power lines but don’t really know. Anyone know what this means?

I'm sure it won't be much to write home about visually, but glad this stretch is being filled in.

161 E Erie

Just saw a note in Alderman Reilly’s newsletter that there’s a pending demo app for 161 e Erie. First time hearing of this, would assume whoever is developing it has some big plans considering the location. With that being said, it could be NM continuing to expand (I really hope not).

It does sound like Reilly & co are trying to landmark this building so could end up being nothing. This city loves preserving empty buildings with no use!

I'm all for more density there, but I wish they'd reuse the bank, and build an L-shaped building over the parking lot instead. They picked an unattractive angle for the photo you shared, and that grey first floor façade needs to go, but if you look from the corner it's got good bones.

I certainly hope not. But I've given up on downtown Chicago and preservation. These people need to visit Boston.

161 East Erie. What a beautiful building

The ones on the website are from 2021 and were very conceptual. I'm curious if these new ones are more concrete proposals after working more with 300 S Riverside and Amtrak.

161 E Erie

The Landmarks Commission agenda is up for Oct 3rd and 161 E Erie is the first thing on the agenda to get a preliminary landmark recommendation.

Wondering the same thing. Any concerns about diesel fumes from idling trains?

state of the state

I drove around the broader West Town area and on Western between Armitage and Grand yesterday... no fewer than 4 new 5-story condo buildings on Western under construction and at least 10 new single family homes scattered around the neighborhood streets.... pretty consistent with the development patterns over the last 8-10 years.
