Yeah, it is quite literally one of the extreme ends of the country. As far south in Texas or the US as you can go. Other than maybe the Florida Keys.

Its not that bad if you're going there on purpose. Its about half an hour drive if you fly into Brownsville. There is nothing to do there though besides seeing Starbase.

It's only a few miles from South Padre Island. Most people watch from there because of the safety range, can't get much closer.

This is probably the best resource for staying and viewing a launch.

I just drove from Omaha to Boise using the most circuitous route possible, I think I could trek down to S. Texas from Houston to catch an upcoming Starship launch. Never got a chance to see the Shuttle so def. Need to see this at least once. This last one was nothing short of impressive. We do live in the future.
