I was in Milwaukee last weekend for a few days. This was my second trip to the Good Land, the first being in April 2023, covered here.

Great medium sized city. A mini Chicago in terms of layout and feel, although missing that public transit component so necessary. My GF's daughter just moved to the Murray Hill area for grad school at UWM so that's where we stayed. There are some great neighborhoods out that way and they are relatively walkable.

Also, I've wanted to kayak the Milwaukee River since Steely posted his pics of doing so many years ago. We did that on this trip. What a fun way to experience the city. Even better to hit up Lakefront Brewing at our turnaround point. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for all the comments. Milwaukee is I believe vastly under-rated.

A little bonus: On the way down to Chicago I made my girlfriend take a 30 minute detour to the SC Johnson Company headquarters by Frank Lloyd Wright in Racine. Unfortunately they only give tours on Saturdays so I was only able to get some exterior shots from beyond the fence line. As an Arizona State alum (which has the largest Wright archive outside of Taliesin), I was absolutely sick of even thinking about Wright by the time I graduated architecture school. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate much more about his design philosophy and interesting tricks, even if not the buildings themselves. This one in particular though is quite interesting. I so wish I could have seen the interior floral columns in the main workspace.
