They did clean up the approach to the parking level and poured some concrete in there, as well as tidied up the site. At times there actually were a handful of vehicles on site and maybe they were busy underground?
The perspective used in those renders makes the non-tower portion of the building look pretty weird. I wonder if they are planning some sort of roof-top facility like a restaurant/patio to make use of that area?
On the plus side, it's nice to see the tower adjacent to the others in that cluster. A person will be able to stand in that plaza and see high-rise towers from every angle. A cluster of erections, as it were...

It's funny how this project started out with such fan fare and excitement. Over the years of non-activity has sure soured us on this development.
If I were to come on here tomorrow and show you guys a render of a new 27 storey hotel for Winnipeg, we would be doing cartwheels in the streets.

Wasn’t the original plan (like before the start of tns) to have this tower be the height they’ve chosen now, plus included another tower almost as tall next to it??
This is literally just giving us half of what was originally promised, but like 8 years late.

The old version had an 18 and 13 storey tower on a 2 storey podium. This new version has a 25 storey tower on a 2 storey podium. So a net loss of 4 floors.

I recall earlier complaints...'why don't they stack them as one tall tower?' We can argue about which designs were nicer, but having faith that this will finally get built, it will be a fantastic addition on it own merits.
As for the old Sheraton...calling that a hotel is a little generous. I think technically it was referred to as a 'motor hotel'.
I like the tower design and the added height is nice, but I second the sentiment of disappointment with the south portion. It's giving strip mall vibes and looks like it exists just for a skywalk. And I actually think it's less height than what was there before.
Do we know if the south portion is being kept as a pad for a future tower? That would be a silver lining.
I assume they could do a future tower since they already did the foundation. Looks like they're maintaining the two parkades that were originally proposed (one on St. Mary, the other on Hargarve). So seems like they could just plop another tower on in the future.
But I wouldn't hold my breath it will happen anytime soon.
